This thread needs a little love. Question for the fellow boardies... is it kosher to list books you would like to trade here, without running a dedicates sales thread? Thoughts?

Can't imagine anyone would have a problem with it.  Pulp board is so slow I think just about anything goes.  😄

I've been meaning to ask this exact question too. Not really interested in selling anything, but it would be fun to trade.

I'll get my list together too :)

Yes!!! Did a big trade with a fellow boardie yesterday, and it was alot of fun. It took us all day of back and forth, when we had time. We were able to put it to bed last night. We both got some great books out of it by moving books we owned, for books we wanted. If nothing else, it's great for entertainment when the boards are slow.

Took a lot longer to get this together than I thought. Calling it here, but there is more. I'm listing a photo along with a rough grade guess, and I'll try to point out any obvious defects. If you're interested in anything, please just ask for more photos or details though.

CAVEAT: I'm in Canada. It should cost about $12-15 to send 1-5 mags, and it will take about 2 weeks for shipping both ways.

WANTS:

Astounding - Any 30s or early 40s issues in FN or better. I'm trying to complete a run/upgrade. Top issue might be April 1936, and I'm always looking for a Feb 1936 upgrade.

Weird Tales - The usual, early issues and Conan, and more specifically Clark Ashton Smith stories. Top ones would be the bat woman cover in (almost) any condition (want it for the Conan story, not really the cover), March 1933 and January 1933. I do have a lot of the other Conan issues.

Planet Stories - Missing most, but mostly after March 1951. One of my favourite Brackett stories and a great cover too.

I'm mainly after good fantasy/sf stories, so Wonder, Amazing, etc might work out too.

THE STUFF:

Spicy Western, March 1933 - G-VG, cover tear, maybe trimmed, nicer spine/pages though.

Other Worlds, May 1951 - VG+, some fading. My favourite Bok cover and one of my favourite pulp covers.

P1040473.thumb.JPG.0b671a5bf1b115d8db3cf2927ccded32.JPG

Dime Mystery, March 1943 - G-VG, cover creases, overhang chips, nice spine.

P1040474.thumb.JPG.fd330b787bd157434351a9c213de6fc0.JPG

Weird Tales, April 1929 - G-VG, cover tear on left side, spine breaks, overhang chips, otherwise solid and complete. Underrated issue imo, first publication of Dunwich Horror, better and longer than Call of Cthulhu imo. Better cover too, at least we get some mysticism, not just some dude in his underwear shooting at a table.

Wonder Stories, July 1934 - G-VG, marks on cover. First Weinbaum story and getting hard to find.

P1040476.thumb.JPG.b06ea9678b1626ffda06e7fedba4a6ea.JPG

Astounding, August 1938 - VG, pencil marks on cover. First publication of what later became The Thing. One of my favourite stories and movies, and the (Carpenter) movie follows this one almost word for word.

P1040477.thumb.JPG.dfbcfc50011b1769475a01bbdde7b9e9.JPG

Astounding, April 1939 - VG. One of the planet cover series that tried to accurately depict the planets in our solar system as they were understood at the time. This is my favourite of them, and the cover story adds to the desolation.

P1040478.thumb.JPG.bbc14eabed584fde5cdcd352721afdec.JPG

Astounding, June 1936 - VGish, spine chip, cover crease, stamp - Classic Lovecraft story and one of only ~5 Lovecraft pulp covers.

P1040480.thumb.JPG.98e8a50d83253b501d5699fd8e245fa2.JPG

Astounding, Feb 1936 - F-G, cover staining, spine chips, complete and not brittle though. My favourite Lovecraft story and cover.

P1040481.thumb.JPG.fdc897aad7f101f915d0c92439a8e1d1.JPG

Astounding, March 1936 - VG, 2 pieces of tape at spine ends. Part II of the above.

P1040479.thumb.JPG.a3120d4dffd77fb252f0988e542c0e97.JPG

Film Fun, January 1930 - VG, tanning

Film Fun, April 1932 - VG+

Film Fun, September 1934 - VG, cover marks

Bolles covers, the rest is boring.

Finally, an oddball I somehow have two of: The Black Cat, August 1900 - VG. This was a fun magazine kind of like an earlier, smaller Weird Tales. The focus was on supernatural/fantasy short story, and while it didn't give us Howard or Lovecraft, it did publish Jack London's and Clark Ashton Smith's first stories. The titles below give you an idea of how unusual it was for its time. More info: https://sf-encyclopedia.com/entry/black_cat_the
