That was a dream.

The end of Dexter was a nightmare.

I just started watching Season 1, since I've run out of things to watch.  Would you recommend watching it despite the missed landing in the last season?

Showtime's Dexter revival is enlisting another familiar face for its return.

Marcos Siega has signed on to exec produce and direct six of the 10-episode revival starring Michael C. Hall.

Set 10 years after Dexter Morgan went missing in the eye of Hurricane Laura, the revival sees the character now living under an assumed name in a world away from Miami, per Showtime's official logline.

Siega had been a frequent collaborator of returning Dexter showrunner Clyde Phillips and directed nine episodes of the series — two of which were written by Phillips. Siega's credits include helming The CW's Batwoman pilot and directing HBO Max's The Flight Attendant. His credits include True Blood, Veronica Mars, Tyrant, Blindspot and The Following. He's repped by UTA and Goodman Genow.

The Dexter revival will be again run by Phillips and is technically considered a closed-ended revival though it does conitnue of the original series. Dexter, which Phillips left halfway through its run, ended in 2013 with Hall's Dexter Morgan going on self-imposed exile as a lumberjack and living a solitary life.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter's TV's Top 5 podcast, Phillips said, "We basically do get to start from scratch. … Ten years, or however many years, have passed by the time this will air, and the show will reflect that time passage. So far as the ending of the show, this will have no resemblance to how the original finale was. It’s a great opportunity to write a second finale."

Phillips noted the revival would offer an opportunity to make things right with viewers after the critically panned series finale. "We’re not undoing anything," he said. “We’re not going to betray the audience and say, ‘Whoops, that was all a dream.’ What happened in the first eight years, happened in the first eight years.”

Earlier this year came the surprise announcement that Dexter is returning to Showtime. The fan-favorite TV series ended with a whimper instead of a bang seven years ago, with a series finale that fans still talk about in negative tones to this day. With its return the series will be able to try and right the course and give itself a chance at redemption, and if new reports are to be believed it will definitely be taking the series back to its roots and perhaps even sooner than we thought. According to The Illuminerdi, the new season is scheduled to begin in January of next year and the premium cable network is targeting major talent to go up against the title killer.

Michael C. Hall will reprise his role of Dexter for the series and going up against him will be a new character, a "50 year old man named Kurt." The outlet describes Kurt as having a season long arc for the ten-episode limited series, revealing him to be a trucker from the Northeastern part of America that owns a own the local truck stop in town and has "established himself as a beloved leader in the community." He harbors a secret though in his son Matthew which The Illuminerdi says has "created many messes" which require his father to use his wealth to clean-up. We can only assume "messes" is code for "murder victims."

Though they have no line on casting for the part of the son Matthew, but Showtime is reportedly targeting none other than John Cusack for Kurt (having previously reached out to Tim Robbins who passed on the part). It seems like the series is getting ready to have Dexter face a pair of villains that hearken back to the strongest of its antagonists like The Ice Truck Killer and The Trinity Killer. Let's hope they hit that mark.

"We basically do get to start from scratch," executive producer Clyde Phillips previously told THR. "We want this to not be Dexter season 9. Ten years have passed - or however many years have passed by the time this will air - and the show will reflect that time passage. Insofar as the ending of the show: this will have no resemblance to how the original finale was - and it's a great opportunity to write a second finale for a show, and Showtime was very gracious about that."

Last week, we analyzed casting information for the upcoming series, specifically pertaining to the Chief Of Police in Iron Lake, NY, Angela. Joining Angela on the force is another new character known as Logan, who will have a series long arc.

Showtime is currently searching for a black male in their mid to late thirties to play the Deputy of the Iron Lake Police Department. Logan is a town local who is capable, kind, and optimistic. In addition to his role as Police Deputy, he is a cherished assistant wrestling coach at the local high school. He is a “great guy and a hero” loved by the town and the wrestling team.

While Logan joins Kurt, Angela and Audrey as one of the good, simple people of this small Northeast town, a far darker soul comes to Iron Lake.

It was great until the last episode.

Worst ending ever.

Maybe this new series will rectify that.

If it picks up after the finale of season 4, that would be great.  After that each season got more outlandish.

Big Bads don’t come any bigger or badder than this: Clancy Brown is joining Showtime’s forthcoming Dexter revival as the primary villain opposite Michael C. Hall‘s titular vigilante, TVLine has learned exclusively.

The acting vet — whose antagonistic TV credits include Carnivale and Billions — will play the series regular role of Kurt Caldwell, the unofficial mayor of the small town of Iron Lake.

Per the official character description, Kurt “realized the American dream by going from driving big rigs, just like his father did, to now owning several trucks and the local truck stop. Powerful, generous, loved by everyone — he’s a true man of the people. If he’s got your back, consider yourself blessed. But should you cross Kurt, or hurt anyone that he cares for, God help you.”

It’s unclear if Iron Lake will serve as the setting for the 10-episode revival, which will pick up in real-time, AKA seven years after the 2013 series finale. The controversial closer sent Dexter into fake death-imposed exile in the woods of Oregon (perhaps near a small town called Iron Lake?!).

The Dexter finale’s poor reception is partly what led Hall to sign on to the revival. “Let’s be real: people found the way that show left things pretty unsatisfying,” he recently told The Daily Beast, “and there’s always been a hope that a story would emerge that would be worth telling. I include myself in the group of people that wondered, ‘What the hell happened to that guy?’ So I’m excited to step back into it. I’ve never had that experience of playing a character this many years on.”

Brown, meanwhile, joins an impressive list of actors who have played Dexter villains. Previous Big Bads have included John Lithgow, Edward James Olmos, Ronny Cox and Jimmy Smits.

The revival of Dexter will be set in Upstate New York. Released in 2006, Dexter quickly became one of Showtime’s most popular series, with Michael C. Hall receiving critical praise for his portrayal of the anti-hero. After eight successful seasons, Dexter ended in 2013 with a series finale regarded as one of the most controversial sign-offs in television history. In the final episode, viewers witnessed Dexter Morgan faking his own death and becoming an isolated lumberjack in Oregon.

Last October, Showtime surprised and delighted Dexter fans when it announced that the show would return for a 10-episode limited series, with Hall set to reprise his role. Helmed by original showrunner Clyde Phillips, who exited the series after its fourth season, Dexter season 9 is expected to release in 2021. So far, the revival has kept plot details under wraps, but Showtime suggested the series takes place one decade after the events of the finale and released the brief synopsis, “ ...the revival sees the character now living under an assumed name in a world away from Miami.” Now, it has been revealed where Dexter could be causing mayhem next.

Per TVLine, Dexter season 9 will be set in the fictional small town of Iron Lake, New York. While the revival will take place in New York, production will begin in Massachusetts next month.

The revival of Dexter has started to round out the cast with Julia Jones (The Mandalorian), Alano Miller, Johnny Sequoyah, and Jack Alcott, who join the recently announced Clancy Brown. Tackling the role as the series’ main antagonist, Brown will play Kurt Caldwell, the unofficial mayor of Iron Lake.

Originally set in Miami, Florida, Dexter appears to be giving the serial killer a fresh slate on the East coast. At this time, Hall is the only actor from the original cast slated to return. Of course, it seems the character could once again mingle with the police department in the small town of New York, as Jones will portray Angela Bishop, the first Native Chief of Police in her town, and Miller plays Logan, a sergeant for the Iron Lake Police Department.

There's an incarnation known as Parasurama (axe wielding Rama) in the Vedas, that I've always associated with this show. He is the sixth Avatar of Vishnu that killed 21 generations of Kshatriyas (warriors or military) for killing His father.
