Nice

Thanks! :x

I way over paid for it lol I traded some "fine condition", Wolverine limited series #1-4 for $75 towards it.

Problem is, #1 was VF, but all had "raw sigs."

#1 by Claremont that I had done at the 1st con I ever went to, didn't know about grading and all they had available was the competition.

#2-4 were only "fine" but signed by Len Wein, I bought them raw already signed. lol I'm kicking myself for letting go of the sentiment, but it wasn't all that great a memory for raw sigs and so on (thumbsu

$75 credit, and then due to cost of the item, I paid another $55. lol:roflmao:

This book I shipped out in Sept 2021 returned to me yesterday.

Amazing Spider-Man 238 first went on sale Dec 1982 during the waning days of my personal childhood "newsstand era" so my 1st childhood copy is rough shape. Early in 1984 while at my LCS I read in some publication the name of which I no longer recall that ASM 238 was poised to go up in value. The cover of the book they pictured in Black and White was the Direct Sale version. I thought the direct sale 238 looked extra cool with the Spidey face in lieu of the UPC and I made my way to the back issue section. There were 3 copies. One was missing the Tatooz,  I picked the nicest of the remaining 2 and paid the .75 cents which at the time was the price of most new Marvel and DC's

This exact copy of this book represents several 1st's for me.

1) First back issue I ever purchased as an upgrade to a book I already owned.
2) First 1980's or newer book I've ever submitted to CGC that I knew would never be a 9.8
3) First book I've submitted to CGC which I've ever had pressed - the 21 year streak endeth.
4) First "special" CGC label in my collection as I'm really not fan of them.

I graded this as VF/NM in the 1990's as noted in my spreadsheet, and before I submitted i figured a 9.2 as is.  There was a light non-color breaking finger type indention likley from when the Shop owner (Thanks Ken!) originally bagged it.  Due to some spine dings that go through from front to back it would never be a 9.6, but I figured nicely displaying 9.4 if pressed was very plausible, and was correct.   I also knew it was not going to get White Pages. The front of shop I purchased it back in 1984 had a southern exposure and the sun shined directly on the back issue section specifically the lower letters in the alphabet (Thanks again Ken!)

I'm thrilled to have my childhood 238 back CGC, finally! Regardless of the going rate of the newsstand edition, I greatly prefer the direct sale version of this book!

I had a comic ship out a few weeks ago, at this rate maybe 2024 is too early to expect it back? :wavingwhiteflag:

Dammit Ken.

Never even knew this existed until yesterday and I'm a Young Avengers fan. This book predates Young Avengers 1 and as far as I know, Its the first comic to host the Young Avengers (Previews 16 excluded since It's not a comic). The interior has sketches of the Young Avengers team and there are only 21 copies in total, graded on the census. Supposed print run is 14,701 according to comichron, which is considerably lower than the standard print Young Avengers 1. Pretty sure a lot of people are still unaware of this one.
