A new “Addams Family” live-action TV series could soon be coming to television.

Variety has confirmed with sources that MGM Television is developing a new series about the spooktacular family. “Into the Badlands” creators Alfred Gough and Milles Millar are attached to write the new series, while Tim Burton is in negotiations to direct and executive produce. Gough and Millar would also serve as executive producers and showrunners.

No network or streaming service is currently attached, but given the highly-recognizable IP, the series would likely have little trouble finding a home.

If the show were picked up to series, it would mark one of the few television projects of Burton’s career. His previous TV work includes directing episodes of shows like “Alfred Hitchcock Presents,” while he was also an executive producer on the animated series version of “Beetlejuice.” He is best known for his film work, helming critically-acclaimed features like “Edward Scissorhands,” “Batman” and “Batman Returns,” “Ed Wood,” and “Mars Attacks.”

Netflix’s upcoming Tim Burton Addams Family drama series Wednesday has found its Morticia.

Catherine Zeta-Jones has been tapped to serve as a guest star and play the matriarch in the eight-episode series from director Burton and showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar (Smallville, Into the Badlands).

Wednesday is described as a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Wednesday attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.

Yes Day and You grad Jenna Ortega will star as Wednesday in the live-action series. Luis Guzman (Shameless) was recently cast as Gomez, the patriarch in the Addams family.

Actor Jenna Ortega has big shoes to fill by playing Wednesday Addams in the upcoming Addams Family spinoff Wednesday, not only because of the character's history, but also because the character was previously played by the acclaimed Christina Ricci, but even Ricci herself is impressed with Ortega's work, recently expressing how delighted she was by the performer. Not only is Ricci reuniting with the world of the Addams Family by starring in the upcoming series, but it also sees her reuniting with former collaborator Tim Burton, who she was also delighted to work with again. Wednesday is expected to debut on Netflix later this year.

"I was beyond flattered, particularly because it is Tim Burton and I respect and admire Tim so much," Ricci recalled to Deadline. "So, to have him ask me to come back and play this part in that world was really gratifying on a sentimental level."

Ricci previously worked with Burton on the 1999 adaptation Sleepy Hollow. In the animated The Addams Family films, Wednesday was voiced by Chloë Grace Moretz.

"She's so incredibly talented and professional, and really seems to love film and TV making, and is involved in every step along the way of the show," Ricci shared of Ortega. "And her Wednesday is a really, really great, smart, modern take on that character."

Christina Ricci was amazing as Wednesday as a child and should be as an adult. Carolyn Jones is a tough act to follow, but I thought Anjelica Huston did a fantastic job. Zeta-Jones has some big shoes to fill, and Guzman seems wrong on the surface. I'll definitely check this out, though.
