EXCLUSIVE; 20th Century Studios has engaged 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg to direct the fifth installment in the Predator series. The ---script is being written by Patrick Aison, whose producer-writer credits include the series Kingdom, Jack Ryan and Treadstone.

They are keeping the plot line under wraps for the moment, but I’m told it won’t swing back to the developments in the most recent film. Fox made its last entry in the 2018 thriller The Predator. That film was directed by Shane Black, who was one of the original castmembers in the 1987 film that kicked off the series and starred Arnold Schwarzenegger. Black played one of the team of commandos who winds up being tracked and killed in gory fashion by the extraterrestrial hunter.

John Davis has produced all the movies.

I've never been disappointed with a Predator movie. Even with the clash of AVP. With both franchises taken into account, I feel that the only problem was between Prometheus and Covenant, where they could have elaborated more on the Alien species that eventually created Alien and the "Holy" War, but it would have been nice to introduce "Predator' in that sequence as 'Aliens' was introduced in Predator 2

he surprise announcement that Fox was working on a fifth Predator film came with very little information about its plot — beyond the fact that the movie would not be a direct continuation of the previous film, 2018’s The Predator, directed by Shane Black. Given how little is known about the Predators, there is a lot of things the movie could be.

According to AVP Galaxy, it appears that the film will actually be a period piece, set hundreds of years before any of the previous Predators. Their sources indicate “Predator 5 will be set in the past (finally!) where it will focus around Native Americans before the territories were taken by the American settlers, featuring a First Nations cast.”

In addition to their sources, they also point to a press report from 2019 that claimed Dan Trachtenberg was working on a project called “Skulls” for Disney/Fox and Davis Entertainment, the company that’s produced every Predator movie to date. At that time, the project was described as the story of “a Comanche woman who goes against gender norms and traditions to become a warrior.” As AVP Galaxy notes, that sounds a lot like the Predator 5 synopsis they’ve heard — and Predator 5 will be directed by Trachtenberg.

In Trachtenberg’s tweet about the news, he even wrote that “this was meant to be a surprise” and that he had been working on the project for “almost 4 years.” That doesn’t necessarily confirm that they previously announced movie under a totally different title to keep its true identity a secret, but it certainly would make sense.

Trachtenberg previously directed 10 Cloverfield Lane, which was also developed and shot in secret and announced with a surprise trailer just a few months before its release.

The idea that Predators have a secret history on Earth dates back 30 years, to the end of Predator 2. After Danny Glover’s character (spoilers!) defeats the Predator in battle, he’s confronted by a whole group of additional Predators. Their leader hands Glover an antique pistol with the inscription “Raphael Adolini - 1715” as a kind of trophy for his victory.

That would certainly suggest the Predators have been visiting our planet since at least then. If this plot description for Predator 5 is accurate, don’t be shocked if the Adolini pistol makes a return appearance in the movie.

It's sounding like they are putting some thought into this -script.

Predator fans were shocked and delighted last week when news broke that 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg had quietly been developing a new film in the franchise, with a new report from Alien vs. Predator Galaxy claiming that they've known about the project for quite some time and that the sequel would be taking place prior to the American colonies being settled. Details about another project from Trachtenberg, known as "Skulls," could also confirm this notion, in addition to potentially connecting to a character from the original 1987 Predator. The new Predator does not yet have a release date.

Alien vs. Predator Galaxy details the new project, "Predator 5 will be set in the past (finally!) where it will focus around Native Americans before the territories were taken by the American settlers, featuring a First Nations cast."

While Trachtenberg will be directing the sequel, Patrick Aison is confirmed to be writing the -script. This partnership is what helped spark speculation about Skulls secretly being the Predator sequel this whole time. When reports emerged about Skulls being developed by the pair last year, it was teased as a project that would "follow a Comanche woman who goes against gender norms and traditions to become a warrior."

Outside of the world of Predator films, a number of different Predator comic books have explored a connection between Native American cultures and the intergalactic hunter, making it possible the upcoming film could potentially be bringing those fan-favorite pieces of mythology to life. Additionally, with the original film featuring Sonny Landham as a Native American tracker, it's possible that the new film could further cement a centuries-old connection between the beast and Native American tribes.

When reports started to emerge about the new film, Trachtenberg himself took to Twitter to express his disappointment that the project was no longer shrouded in secrecy.

We have details now on Dan Trachtenberg’s upcoming Predator film. This title will be a continuation of the franchise after Shane Black’s 2018 The Predator. Trachtenberg’s film will be based off a -script written by Patrick Aison. Aison’s resume includes Jack Ryan and Kingdom. The movie will follow a Comanche woman who looks to “defy her culture’s norms” and “become a warrior”.

Murphy’s Multiverse has details on the star of the movie. The name of the main character is Kee – which means “no”. The film is looking for a 15-year-old actress for this role. The other character they’re looking for is the brother – an 18-year-old named Taabe. Which, means the sun. According to the source, Kee is a:

“Truth-teller who sees what others don’t, as she guides her brother, who is expected to become Chief one day. After a successful hunt, he believes he has come of age and no longer requires his sister’s help, which creates a rift between them. She decides to set out and prove that she is just as capable as the others. She aims to defy the rules set by the masculine world of the Comanche.”

Yeah, Predator 1 and 2, great!  Aliens 1 and 2, great!  Terminator 1 and 2, great!  Everything that came after has been mediocre at best to down right junk for all three franchises.

I keep hoping they will make a new good movie in any of these series, yet they keep putting out garbage. I did like Predators with Adrian Brody.

all I want to know is who came up with the dumb idea to make humans from the engineers? Of all the stories that could be told.

Shane Black was supposed to be a die hard fan, and look what the ahole did.

A and P are nothing more than cash grab bags r us. Look at what Ridley Scott did.

People should be outright ashamed at their greed at the cost of their artistic vision.

I did too. There was something unique about that film that still fit well into the Predator lore.

I just hope with their going down this path Disney recognizes just recovering its $71.3B investment doesn't mean to distribute whatever. Get this franchise back on track.

Exactly. That movie shows a good story can still be told for these franchises. Let’s see what they do with the Alien TV show. I’m not expecting much, but maybe they’ll surprise us.

The title, setting, and story of Dan Trachtenberg's new Predator movie have officially been revealed. The franchise might have begun in 1987 with Arnold Schwarzenneger, but 20th Century Fox continued to mine the IP for all it was worth in the decades since. Once Walt Disney Studios bought Fox, it was quickly confirmed that new Predator movies would be on the way, even after Shane Black's The Predator failed to relaunch the franchise.

The future of the Predator franchise was secretly given to 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg years ago. He's indicated that the movie has been in the works since 2016, but details on what he'll do for the franchise have been heavily guarded. Fox hasn't given the film an official release date, and Legion's Amber Midthunder is the only rumored cast member. This hasn't stopped rumors circulating about what the new Predator movie will contain, but now some major details have been confirmed.

During a recent interview with Collider to promote Jungle Cruise, John Davis and John Fox revealed the title, timeline, and story of Trachtenberg's Predator. They announced that the movie is officially titled Skull that will chronicle the first trip to Earth by the main Predator alien. The female lead approach was also confirmed. The producers didn't confirm exactly when Skull is set, only teasing that it takes place early on in Earth and humanity's history. Production is nearly complete as well, so more details could arrive shortly.
