The CW could soon be adding yet another DC series to its ever-growing superhero lineup. Deadline reports the network is developing an adaptation of Naomi, based on the 2019 limited series from writers Brian Michael Bendis and David F. Walker and artist Jamal Campbell.

Naomi is being developed by New Gods director/co-writer Ava DuVernay and former Arrow writer/co-executive producer Jill Blankenship. DuVernay and Blankenship are both writing and executive producing the new series. Naomi will be produced through DuVernay’s Array Filmworks in association with Warner Bros Television.

Naomi revolves around a new teen heroine named Naomi McDuffie (her surname being a tribute to the late Dwayne McDuffie). Her eponymous comic series explores her struggle to come to terms with her newfound powers and her unusual role in the DC Universe. The character has also gone on to play a recurring role in Bendis' Young Justice comic.

Ava DuVernay’s superhero DC drama Naomi has found its lead. Kaci Walfall (Army Wives, Power, The Lion King on Broadway) has been tapped for the titular role in The CW drama pilot, from DuVernay’s Array Filmworks and Warner Bros. Television. Also set as series regulars are Alexander Wraith (Orange Is the New Black, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Cranston Johnson (Filthy Rich, P-Valley, Hap and Leonard) and newcomer Camila Moreno.

Naomi, the network’s latest DC adaptation, comes from DuVernay and Arrow writer and co-exec producer Jill Blankenship. Based on the eponymous comic book series that debuted in 2019, co-written by Brian Michael Bendis and David F. Walker and illustrated by breakout artist Jamal Campbell, the show follows a teen girl’s journey from her small northwestern town to the heights of the multiverse. When a supernatural event shakes her hometown to the core, Naomi sets out to uncover its origins, and what she discovers will challenge everything we believe about our heroes.

Walfall’s Naomi is an effortlessly cool and confident high school student who is the adopted daughter of doting parents. Popular with all the kids in her military town, Naomi is unafraid to embrace her AP-student, comic book–loving nerdiness. After a supernatural event leads to the discovery of her powers within, Naomi pursues her hidden destiny.

It’s hard to get more comic accurate than the first official image released from The CW’s upcoming Naomi.

The network gave us our debut look at actress Kaci Walfall as Naomi McDuffie, the adopted, small town high schooler at the heart of both the Brian Michael Bendis, David F. Walker and Jamal Campbell comic and the CW adaptation, and it’s an image that may look familiar to comic readers.

Fans of the series likely recognize that as a homage to the Campbell-illustrated cover for Naomi #1, the bestselling comic that introduced Naomi to the world. It’s an inspired choice for a first image, suggesting that the TV series will stay true to the heart of the comic. (That said, considering Naomi is only six issues long so far, we can expect the show to quickly expand to storylines that aren’t a part of the book.)

Along with Walfall, Naomi also stars Alexander Wraith as Dee, Cranston Johnson as Zumbado and Camila Moreno as Lourdes. It’s executive produced by Ava DuVernay, Jill Blankenship, Sarah Bremner and Paul Garnes, and produced by DuVernay’s Array Filmworks in association with Warner Bros. Television.

The CW has unveiled its first look at Kaci Walfall as the titular hero of its upcoming series Naomi.

During Saturday’s DC FanDome presentation, the network shared a teaser that sees Walfall’s Naomi on the case of what seems to be a mysterious stunt involving superman.

“I need this for my site,” Naomi interrupts her class before rushing out into the hallways.

After grabbing her bags to get to the center of action ASAP, Naomi skateboards through the hallways of her school and reaches her destination. However, potentially overwhelmed by what she sees, Naomi loses consciousness. But right before it’s lights out for her, she sees a familiar silouhette shoot through the sky.

The CW will have an all-DC footprint on Tuesday nights in early 2022, with the second season of Superman & Lois helping to launch new series Naomi.

Both shows will premiere in January, taking over the night from The Flash and Riverdale after their brief fall runs. The network has also a February premiere All American: Homecoming and dates for Dynasty, Kung Fu, Charmed and Two Sentence Horror Stories as part of its midseason slate. The Flash and Riverdale, meanwhile, will both move to new nights when they return in March.

Superman & Lois will begin its second season on Jan. 11, leading into Naomi, a drama about a high schooler (Kaci Walfall) who discovers her hidden destiny after a supernatural event affects her hometown. Ava DuVernay and Jill Blankenship (Arrow) write and executive produce with Paul Garnes of DuVernay’s Array Filmworks.

“Naomi” has been canceled after one season at The CW, Variety has learned.

The DC series debuted its one and only season back in January. It is the latest DC project to get the ax at The CW following the cancellations of “Batwoman” and “Legends of Tomorrow.”

Ava DuVernay and Jill Blankenship co-wrote “Naomi” and executive produced along with by Paul Garnes of ARRAY Filmworks. Amanda Marsalis directed and co-executive produced the pilot episode. The series is produced by ARRAY Filmworks in association with Warner Bros. Television.

More to come..

I wonder if WB-D is getting ready to sell off the CW Network and had to clear these shows out so as to have the freedom to bring some back on HBO Max?

Or that show sucked and it was a stinker.  This post went from you saying the pilot was airing back in January, to you posting it is cancelled in May, with not a single post in between.

I heard it was an average super-hero TV show from a couple of people I know that watched the first 2-3 episodes. I am not sure what they thought of the rest of Season 1.
