Best Read: I would say the Blake & Mortimer series. As I mentioned through this past year, I am reading the album for the first time in the chronological order of the adventures and not of the publication date so it gives me a better insight how the different writers positioned their stories within the general timeline of the adventures. It has been pleasant to read them this way and rediscover books I'd only read maybe once when they were released. I kept finding myself digging for the next one to read.

Mission: Emptying my TBR pile from the library: ACCOMPLISHED. I have zero'ed out my library holdings; if I stay strong in the new year, I'll go light on Manga in 2022.

Quick takes: Banned Book Club about cultural restriction in South Korea opened up a part of the country's history heretofore unknown to me ... By Night by John Allison is weaker than his prior work on Giant Days, his wit is there but not as prominent ... Nocterra was entertaining but the story structure is quite predictable, following a pattern recognized across many Image series. Not necessarily a bad thing but appears repetitive across several series ... Crossover did not win me over, I'll stop at what I read ... Same with several of the Marvel series, I sampled, a lot of one and done for me, I'll move on to the next one that catches my interest; too bad I expected more out of some of those series (Champions is one good example of a book that didn't deliver) ... No. 5 is a weird book but it pays off to keep up with it as a story is emerging but, boy, do you have to work to get into it ... The Dire Days of Willow Weep Manor was probably a very popular release last year for young readers and stocked at libraries and it's frustrating. The book is okay so, on the one hand, I am glad it is getting praises and attracting readers but, on the other hand, it's annoying that a comic that's only so-so is one receiving that praise. These OGNs are bringing in readers for sure but these readers deserve better material than what I see offered here ...

That's bring my total for 2021 to 2,280 "comics" read.

That's 972 individual books read (be it single comic, European album, manga tankobon or collected edition / OGN). That's a little more than in recent years when I clocked at ~ 1,800 / 1,900 a year.

On to 2022!
