CGC Welcomes Back Jim Starlin, Acclaimed Comic Book Artist and Writer, for His First Solo In-House Private Signing

Posted on 5/12/2021

Calling all Marvel Comics Fans!

CGC is thrilled to announce another fantastic In-House Private Signing with legendary comic book artist and writer Jim Starlin. This will be Starlin’s first solo signing with CGC, and we are beyond excited to host him!

After writing and drawing stories for a number of fan publications, Jim Starlin entered the comic world in 1972, working for other renowned names such as Roy Thomas. Starlin was part of the generation of artists and writers who grew up as fans of Silver Age Marvel Comics. He then continued to share his passion with the rest of the world.

Starlin is best known for space opera stories, revamping the Marvel Comics characters Captain Marvel and Adam Warlock; and for creating the Marvel characters Thanos, Drax the Destroyer, Gamora and Shang-Chi. Starlin later teamed with DC Comics and drew many of their iconic characters such as Darkseid. He also created his own character Dreadstar for Epic Illustrated.

In the late 1980s, Starlin became the writer of Batman, and one of his first storylines for the title was “Ten Nights of The Beast” in issues #417- #420, which introduced the KGBeast. Other projects for DC included writing The Weird and Cosmic Odyssey.

“Our entire CGC Signature Series team has been buzzing about this upcoming signing, and we are so excited to share this exclusive event with fans” exclaimed Brittany McManus, CGC Signature Series Director. “Starlin has been an absolute legend in the comic world for years, which means we are certain that fans will be ecstatic to hear this announcement.”

CGC Welcomes Back Jim Starlin, Acclaimed Comic Book Artist and Writer, for His First Solo In-House Private Signing

I remember back in the day...  "Jim Starlin hates CGC!".  In fact, there was even a 41 page thread dedicated to the topic.

Oh how the times have changed.

I have my one for the Todd that I was too broke to send in last time, Christmas time can be a tight fit sometimes....

I'm not really picky sometimes, I don't usually don't press, so I had 2 copies of ASM #362; 1 came back 9.8 the other 9.6, so figure the cost to press the 9.6 with an added Bagley sketch remarque may prove to be my best choice

in short

still have a raw Coyote book for Todd, and may send in an unpressed cgc 9.6 ASM #362 for Bagley to remarque and SS :)

Romita Jr. is known for bringing bold ideas and visuals all while reshaping comics into worlds full of grit, thundering battlegrounds and emotional real-life situations. His career began in the early 1970s at the young age of 13 when he brought Marvel Comics the character of Prowler, which was used in The Amazing Spider-Man #78. After that, his successes almost seem never-ending, but he is well known for his run on Iron Man with the introduction of many supporting characters like Tony Stark’s bodyguard-girlfriend Bethany Gabe and rival industrialist Justin Hammer. There’s also Daredevil where he helped develop the nemesis Typhoid Mary. Romita Jr. has also worked on titles such as Uncanny X-Men, Thor, Incredible Hulk, Wolverine, Black Panther and is considered one of the premier Spider-Man artists.

Hanna has been a top comic book inker and penciler for over 30 years and is acclaimed for his highly adaptable inking work and finishes that enhance every book he touches —no matter the artistic style. During his long, successful career, Hanna has inked some of the greatest titles in the comic book industry, including a five-year run with DC’s Detective Comics starring Batman, 21 issues of Green Lantern Corps, as well as titles like Knightfall, KnightQuest and KnightsEnd. At Marvel, he has inked top character stories like the Hulk, X-Men, Iron Man, Daredevil, Thor, Wolverine and 15 years of inking Spider-Man. Hanna’s run with Spider-Man brought him to working with Romita Jr., starting with Spider-Man #73. Beyond Spider-Man titles, Hanna and Romita Jr. have worked together on Avengers vs. X-Men and Captain America.

“We’re really excited to offer another opportunity for fans to not only get one signature or Remarque but two from two incredible artists,” said Brittany McManus, CGC Signature Series Director. “John and Scott have worked together on a number of books, so it will be awesome to see what comes in!”
