Ridiculous Pricing 2 2

This is a thread for us to illustrate some books that are being sold for a ridiculous price.

Here's my first example:

A user on Instagram (Instagrailz) has listed a Tales of Suspense #50 CGC 3.0 for $1199. The last sale, according to GPA, was for $286 in March, 2021. I have no doubt that is has gone up in one month, but 319%? Give me a break!

Did the book sell at that price?

Hey I am right with you, some seller on ebay has an ASM 23 for 1285.00, 12 month on the book is 435.00 , 90 day is 535.00, last sale was 600.00.

I have seen people do this for years.  If they can afford to hold onto a book, they put a very high price and wait for the market to catch up. Even if it takes months or years.

I just sent my Tales of Suspense 50 to get graded and estimate it to be 3 or 4ish. Of course it will be 6 months before I get it back and just imagine how much it will be worth then

I'm not saying all his pricing is bad. I just think it was bad on the particular book I cited.

Yeah that one (IMO) has been undervalued for a while. I think it is probs the Shang Chi hype. I wonder if the prices are similar on eBay, haven’t checked tho.

And sometimes people just put stupid crazy high prices on stuff hoping someone will bite.

I purchased a 6.5 ASM 129 this week for what looked like a decent price. Checked eBay sold listings, and the same day I bought mine one sold for $1k more 😳

Ebay sellers and buyers are nuts. Instagram has been much better for me.

The other book is relisted. Seems the sell didn't go through.

I checked eBay and the BIN price is consistent with what others are asking for this book.

People do this all the time. Its nothing new.

Houses, sportscards, stamps, coins, records, toys etc...

I've done it a few times myself when im fishing for a base price.

Just try to figure out if the seller is crazy or youre late to the party.

I too bought a 6.5 for 1k from a boardie (Solar Boy) few months back. The FMV back then was 1.2k

The book nowadays fetches ~2.3k in auctions!!

It's not just Instagram or ebay, I've seen ridiculous prices on books here on these boards.  After a few days of zero "takes", the sellers wonder why there's no interest in their books.
