USPS ruined a golden age gem

IMO, the seller was negligent.  A priority mailer envelope is no way to ship a nice comic.

I know the comic was in a case but that's still negligence.  Envelopes get raped by sorting machines.  Also, I have a mailman who would try his best to fold that thing to make it fit in my mailbox.  I hate it when folks ship me books in envelopes.

Generally no. They assign a value to the damage done and give you that, assuming it was insured for enough.

For example: I had a JIM 83 get damaged during shipping because Desert Wind Comics is run by people who know nothing about how to handle comics (mailed it to me in a freaking envelope). One of the corners was torn off of the book and USPS sent me a check for a whopping $200

If you didn't declare a value, it's $50. If you want more, even if it insured you have to show the books worth, and good luck trying to convince them a two inch tear ruins the books value.

Yikes, so Insurance is worthless... so what is the safest method?  Registered mail?

Question- Why did USPS pay you, the receiver, instead of the sender, who purchased the insurance?

Because I filed the claim. I was the owner of the book so it was my property. I paid for the shipping and the insurance as well

I was getting ready to blame whoever shipped it to you, thinking they just put it in one of those flimsy cardboard USPS envelopes. I cant believe they mangled that box that far beyond recognition.

You have an easy claim if it was insured. They won't ask you to have over the book. You just submit the claim with pics and they'll mail you a check for their determined amount

Not that easy anymore.  I had a bad one as well and they sent me a letter saying I need to bring the item in for an postal inspection.  PO is broke, they are denying claims left and right unfortunately now.    OP might have to jump through hoops to get his money.

Was a box.

Seriously, no packaging would have survived what must have happened to this one. Hopefully, USPS will be non-argumentative about restitution. Also hopefully the book itself is at least salvageable....

Looks like the sorting machine did this, I would have refused the delivery. Then make the seller deal with the USPS.

Postman goes to deliver it and "Nope".

The fact that they put a sticker on there that says, "Received in Damaged Condition" should be the an easy insurance claim. Every claim I've had has been surprisingly painless. I hope the seller was smart enough to add additional insurance though.

Yes same for me.  This is new thing USPS is doing now.

Before easy, now hoops!
