To answer your question, it doesn't matter when you put your proxy bid in, but you might as well wait till the last day in order to reduce the likelihood of being outbid. If you must win a book no matter what, meaning that you're willing to pay $5,000 for a $250 book so that you feel like a "winner," then you should bid live. But if you put in a proxy bid, you run the risk of being outbid by another bidder who is willing to pay $5,000 for a $250 book so that he can feel like a "winner."

I've been after a run for 9 years now.

Torchy #1 - #6 plus her 1st app in 9.0+

I missed Cheetah selling his, and being in Australia, there isn't the 'network' of contacts to find these books.

After much searching, advertising and in some cases grovelling - I have managed to get Torchy #2 , #3 and #4 in 9.0 and above.

 

After following the sound advice from Jimbo, I placed my bid, went to work and had a laptop open on top of the ventilator in my theatre watching the auction live (and working honest guv!)

I'm now the proud owner of Doll-Man Quarterly #8 - the 1st app of Torchy, Promise Collection CGC 9.2 - and for waaay less than I imagined!

Probably be another 9 years, but the hope continues!

In the game of thrones this time around, but mostly played around the margins.  Several of my bids pushed Promise books up.  Won one I was sure I'd lost, and did it in pure Homer Simpson style by trying to bid against myself.  It appeared that the control dashboard BID buttons locked after I was outbid.  My first thought was that I'd accidentally logged off.  I finally resigned myself to the fact this book was fated to go somewhere else ...only to realize on reviewing my tracking results that I'd forgotten about the two bid increments I'd added to my theoretical maximum the night before (d'oh!).   When outbid during the live auction, the increment kicked in.  BTW, tapping on the BID button repeatedly after the dashboard locks is never a good idea.  That only succeeds in placing an unwanted bid on the next book up! Fortunately, that was quickly outbid.  It was the protective increment that rescued my earlier bid.  Not saying which book yet, ...nobody knows, but us chickens.

What's driving me nuts is what this means for non ped values in the same grades. Is my #58 in 9.6 now worth 13k?:canofworms:

Probably. Whoever picked up the Promise copy is now out of the market, and so this book may now go for my underbid. Regardless, this is a nice bump for your book. Previously the GPA only showed my purchase of the Mile High 9.4 copy for $8k. At the time I thought I’d wildly overspent, but a rising tide floats all boats eventually

the Promise pedigree designation does seem to be garnering far higher values (for some reason)

I think your copy is nicer than the promised one.

Well certainly the scan is better! Thanks be to Heritage (it was cheetah's copy, and before that kelholt was the owner)

From what I can recall, the other 9.6 is nicer than the Promise copy as well.

It didn't seem to help the Cap #74 8.0 thought it would go a lot higher si ce the Promise pedigree went for over 200k.
