Bedsheets are normally factory trimmed as issued.  Which doesn’t change the fact the edges aren’t all shown in the picture is worrisome.

Yeah, this kind of cropping is a red flag for me. You don't have to be a sophisticated lensman to get the whole book in the pic and the edges are probably 80% of the grade on anything above midgrade :sumo:

Doesn't mean there's mal intent but there is no excuse for any vet pulp seller to obscure the edges, and newbies should be contacted and directed in the honest direction.

While I'm at it, does anyone have March 1943 planet stories?  I got this copy off commicconnect with an undisclosed reattached back cover, not surprising lol, but when comparing mine to one on ebay to see if it's worth upgrading I noticed the back covers were different.

Here's the back cover for Planet Stories March 1943, which I just shot from my copy.

Sorry that waaghboss got the switcheroo... I have not been completely hosed by CC but the few pulps and digests I have won were on the lower end of the advertised spectrum, definitely no surprises to the upside. YMMV.

A win in from those ebay auctions. I've always loved this cover but just haven't seen a nice copy. This one is definitely not trimmed, the overhangs are in good shape, amazing color, and it went cheap to boot. It may be a minefield but there's treasure to be had if you can navigate :headbang:

This is an incredible price for this book.  It's been on my list for a long time because of Anderson's excellent cover.  Screenshot for posterity.

Really great story too. I read it along with the other Stark ones during a hospital stay, and they were good enough to keep me focused. imo Brackett stands alongside Howard as one of the best of this era/genre. If anyone hasn't read it, her character in the story is at least as bad-a** as the cover implies.

(Shameless plug: I kept waiting for a really nice copy of this when they still sold for $20, and now I'm struggling to find any. If anyone's got one around VG+ for sale or trade, let me know~)

Stop it. You think? I was thinking $32k...:whatthe:

I think, with the recent craziness surrounding pulp sales, and the rep the book has as the Action #1 of pulps, that we'll get at least two people thinking they want on the bandwagon before it gets even crazier, and they will put their ballpark number at around 100K.  With the August 1928 Amazing hitting $25K with buyer's premium it seems like a legitimate guess.  To be clear, I'm saying the $105,000 is my guess for final cost to the buyer, to include the premium and such.

I could be very wrong, I'm miles from an expert.  But I think it's as good a guess as any.  I also think your guess is good, looking at the last sales of the book on heritage of much nicer copies... you're just making different assumptions than I did.  And until it hammers, we won't know which of us (or even if either of us) are right.

You did well... I think any copy of the 1930's WT Brundage covers  with the covers intact are worth $50 even if they're a wreck...

There's a few that I might not value that highly if they're going to fall apart when you open them, but I agree in the general case.  Heck, there's at least a couple I would consider dropping $50 for just the front cover in decent shape, such as the batwoman issue.

This one might not make the cut if it was a wreck, for instance... but mine obviously isn't a wreck. even if it's not super high grade:

Agreed. I appreciate you voicing your stab at it. I just can't see that big a number, mostly based on condition... on the other hand, you could be spot on. It just takes 2 to tango.
