Me too. Video games are the red light district of the collectibles market

I have only this one.... I had to. Back in the 80's my friends were "eat-up" with Game fever.... I'm talking about grown men getting off work and going straight to their consoles. I bought this in honor of them, and also out of curiosity about the market. A market is always more real with skin in the game. Oddly enough, my friends who played games with their kids still have enviable bonds with them today. GOD BLESS...

I was under the impression that it was legal in Texas for the House to bid in their own auctions, as well as the consignor.

I think you are correct. I saw the video being more about ethics, a purposely created inflated market and hidden conflicts of interest. Maybe that all adds up to something big enough to be illegal, I don't know.

The video also mentions grading their own items, which they then sell as well as bid on. maybe.

All done under a guise of transparency. Oh, also buying and hiding database/census information.

Someone once told me that Auction "shilling" in Texas was to give a Ranch owner the chance to win back their spreads at the last minute.... I can't remember who told me or how knowledgeable they were, as that was relayed to me years ago.... I probably still had hair. GOD BLESS...

I would destroy any and all at most any game in the 1970s/early 1980s. At the arcade. I ate a free sub every saturday for high score at the local deli, he made me not put a score up until sat morning. changed games, it didn't matter.

Crazy Climber was my jam. Some kid in town was convinced I had the world high score, he saw something on tv and I had beaten that. I was VERY good at that. all that wrist work paid off.

I was a Donkey Kong guy, Congorilla could throw me.

Defender? Come back in 10 minutes.

I was good at asteroids/meteor but there were older kids then who could play forever on a quarter.

Home video never grabbed me. Pinball on atari may have been my favorite (missile command rocked too). I could play that pinball all day long. Real pinball was awesome, the local pharmacy bought the adjacent store and made it a pinball arcade. this was about 1974 and it stayed open about a decade. I loved the Elton John Captain Fantastic pinball machine! I look for that one when I see the new arcade with the old games.

deadly discs of tron (the one you stood inside of), I could play for hours on one quarter.

I haven't watched the whole video, but as of the 10 minute mark he's drawing incorrect conclusions about WATA and Heritage. There was nothing nefarious about WATA listing places like HA or Halperin as advisors, or about HA stating that they would be a marketplace for WATA games before WATA was running full steam.

Somebody who's doing a good job of getting a startup business going would be doing lots of outreach to their industry and establishing relationships with important partners. WATA did this. HA met with them, we met with them, plenty of others met/talked with them. The guys from WATA educated us about the state of video game grading and the graded video game market since it was such an unknown entity at the time to most people, and made the case for what was lacking with the incumbent grader VGA, and why WATA would be better. They made a good case and I had a lot of confidence in them to build a successful grading company, be better than VGA, and accomplish what they wanted to do. We haven't really pursued video games to this point (still too much we're focused on in comics), but we had the opportunity to be involved early in WATA's start similar to HA. Others did too, HA is just the biggest target and the ripest for conspiracy theories.

I can't speak to the rest of the video I haven't watched, but after the first 10 minutes this guy is way off base with his claims.

well said.

I watched about 40% of it, because, well, I just couldn't make it through the other 60%.

From my POV as someone who's been collecting sealed games and the related OA for 19 years now, its incredibly one sided.

Every so often someone like this that thinks they are the six o'clock news EXPOSES the CONNECTION between wata and heritage, as though its any secret.

IMO watching the video is not time well spent and I'll leave it at that.

I defer to your opinion as I know you are a game guy

Most of my concerns were over the hiding of information, whether it is who is working for whom or buying companies to bury information, and the rally road stuff (which is covered in other threads)

In any event, I don't rally care personally but it is interesting and I'll step aside as I got no skin in this game

I do like HA, and use them.

And almost everyone has a story like that.   Some game they loved, some game they were great at, some game they loved when they were 12, some memories they had of playing (fill in the blank) with their older brother, some great game they got for Christmas, some pinball machine they were into, whatever.

Almost sounds like something that a good number of people might be interested in later in life

I have a friend, an Industrial Electrician and Maintenance specialist who has already bought and restored close to a dozen Pinball machines and Arcade games. One of the coolest is the Miss Pac Man table console. For me, I remember Centipede and playing it with my first "True Love" ... she whooped my arse almost every time. I myself preferred Pinball, but was never that skilled. GOD BLESS...
