timfinz
I purchased this book off the shelf when it was originally published. It's been stored ever since and has traveled with me from Southern Ontario to the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia. I am noticing the huge interest in this book of late and I am considering getting it certified. The book lies perfectly flat with no creases, dents, bumps or blemishes. It has the "standard" printing/manufacturing error on the lower back of the cover (the "gripper tear" in the red box) and though the lower staple is tight it appears to have slightly "enlarged holes". My question is, how or if either of these "manufacturing defects" would effect the grade? Thanks for your thoughts and consideration. candygramformongo
I'm not familiar with the "standard" printing/manufacturing error you mentioned on the lower back of the cover so I offer no opinion on how a grader is likely to view it. I've seen a lot of raw copies of that book (had the fortune to buy and store a handful of them myself when they first came out) and I'd say yours is a great looking copy. It looks like a 9.6 to me - if the flaws you mentioned are NOT manufacturer error then I could see 9.4 or even (but less likely) 9.2. If they are BOTH considered manufacturer error, I think 9.8 is at least a possibility. I know most people around here are reluctant to ever judge something a 9.8 and with good reason but if you're debating grading it I think knowing 9.8 *could* be possible may be helpful. (Cue others saying all the things I missed and reasons it's NOT a 9.8, which may be totally fair). Congrats on such a nice copy of such a hot book! timfinz
grendelbo
At least 9.4. Higher is very possible but I won't speculate on CGC's bestowal of a 9.6 or 9.8. It's definitely an exceptional copy. Matt Brosch
Definitely worth having graded. I would guess 9.6, with 9.4 or 9.8 being within the standard deviation of similar books. Just depends on the grader and their mood that day really lol. Great book! timfinz

So, apparently you can still get a 9.8 with the "staple tear" according to the offering at Heritage Auctions (see the link below) https://comics.ha.com/itm/modern-age-1980-present-/the-amazing-spider-man-361-newsstand-edition-marvel-1992-cgc-nm-mt-98-white-pages/a/7246-96568.s?ic4=ListView-Thumbnail-071515# There's still hope! comicginger1789
I own the same book, newsstand and mine has the same holes/manufacturing tears on the back…and mine is a 9.6. These are the only flaws I can note on the book so to me it’s not a 9.8 because the manufacturing flaws are quite visible timfinz
