Subgrade Centering Question
0

2 posts in this topic

After almost 6 months I got my first CGC graded cards back. A Charizard 8.5 and a Butterfree 8.5. They have almost identical sub-grades. My question is with the "Centering" category being totally dependent on the manufacturer of the cards and out of the control of the consumer is there any more or less "weight" of the total grade for this sub-grade? I know the overall grade can't be more then 1 point higher then the lowest sub-grade but I just don't see why they didn't both get a 9.0. I pulled them from packs and put directly into card sleeves (I know there is more to it then that) so I was wondering if the Centering sub-grade played a bigger part in the overall grade then I thought? I am just trying to understand more for my own education.

Hello,

Centering is actually not weighted as heavily because the centering subgrade only goes as low as 8. That means centering alone will not keep a card from obtaining the grade of Mint 9. The overall grades on these two cards is correct, as the overall grade is based on the two lowest sub grades.

Thank you,

Paul
