X-Men #1. Is there some loophole in the CGC grading with custom labels? Does this deserve a Universal Grade?

Some books were submitted for Custom Labels, and CGC found Restoration.  Since they were designated as Custom Labels, they got routed to that department.  Custom graphics can only go on blue labels, but someone without enough knowledge didn't catch the RESTORATION aspect.

It was a major screwup, but they're out there now, released into the wild.  Buyer beware.

And no, you can't request blue labels with or without custom labels for restored books.

Part of the issue is that sometimes the grading room and the slab room don't communicate with one another about things like this, so the slab room encapsulates the book, not realizing there's any problem. After that, if the error isn't caught in QC, the book is on its way out the door...  :(

Which is why QC needs more employees, or better auditing, or a raise, or something.

And why CGC needs to establish a policy wherein they notate the certification records (as in, what you get from the cert number lookup) for slabs that are known to have defective labeling.
