Is it normal for books to come back in worse condition?

This seems to be a problem with Killing Jokes. You really can't read it and expect to get a 9.8 or higher as opening the cover too far will cause very definable creases in the cover usually. I can imagine how a grader would have to very carefully count the pages, (if they even bother to count the pages on an obviously complete/unread Killing Joke), or basically not even be able to open the comic very far to grade it.

Schoredinger's Killing Joke - Can't know if it's perfect unless you look inside, but if you look inside it can't be perfect.
