That’s what I get for trading my sun fade pic with him for a pic of his mystery box. Sighhhhhh. Maybe one day I’ll leak those photos…maybe.

What do we think has happened here then? 

The red seems more vibrant on the back cover of the 'affected' copy, suggesting sun fade to the cover. But would the blue go that way so vividly while reds and yellows still remained? Is this another example of production related colour variance and subsequent sun fade?

I posted this to another thread earlier with the same question, reposting here. In my case, the blue is either purple or gray (left) compared to the more common example (right)…

I think the two copies above are examples of different ink strikes - I don't see any evidence of sun fade, as the reds and yellows are still vibrant on both, as they are in the copies I have posted earlier

This one is clearly a sun affected copy though - to the left you can see how it has affected all colouring. 

We seem to have three groups of books in the thread so far:

1. Sun fades
2. Colour variations 
3. Colour variations with bonus subsequent sun fade

DC's do seem susceptible to purpley-grey blues though, don't they....

This was probably mentioned but the LCS on Main St. in KC, MO has wall after wall of books with major sun fade.  Some really big books too. All of them. 

The owner was killed in a robbery a few years ago and his wife has really stepped up to keep the place going.  It's a good store but those books...Man.

Here's an odd one.

The relatively scarce IW 'Strange Mysteries' #9, which looks on first inspection to have spent some time in the sun:

 

This is what it should look like:

 

 

I can only assume that the book spent some time in a bag, with writing on it, in the sun, to create this effect:

 

But this wording below is printed:

How could print obscure sunlight / protect the natural reds like that I wonder? You can write on a bag with a marker to create the previous scenario, but print? If it was ink transfer from a different comic, somehow, it would be in reverse, wouldn't it?

I don't know what I like more about these two currently on the Bay, the stamps or the fades. A nice left to right graduation on the #137:

I've not read it, but that's a cunning disguise, that mask. You wouldn't ever know it was him would you.

I picked this up recently from MCS because of the sun fade with overlapping, unfaded red sticker shadow, and because it was one of my childhood books. (I read the Marvel’s Greatest Comics #59 version.)

Cracking cover - out of interest, what is CGC's position on sun fade? They don't mark it down?

They clearly do as this presents much better than a 4.0. It probably dropped it down to a maximum starting grade of 6 or lower I'd think with the other defects (spine breaks, soft corners) taking it further down. Looks like it was pressed although I bought it slabbed so I can't be sure. (I don't have a lot of experience with sun fading in any case so others would have a better viewpoint.)
