for the curious among you, here is the r.h./modern library top-100 of the last century list.

https://www.modernlibrary.com/top-100/100-best-novels/

Looks like I've read 19 on that list, some more than once. Not bad for a feral education.

Also, Finnegan's Wake should not be on a list of best novels and anyone who says they read, and understood it, is a liar!

decent sales here; will post a few more tonite.

thinking about releasing the non-award winning books from the r.h. top-25, keeping only a couple that vie for "the great american novel" [gatsby, grapes of wrath].   maybe catch-22 and a 1st u.k. of lolita would stir this joint up...

Any early Logan’s Run books or 1st print Star Wars?

some of you, i surmise, prefer real-life.   here is the non-fiction list.

interesting list, depending on your definition of "non-fiction."  My tastes run mostly to biography (and am surprised that Caro's series on Lyndon Johnson is missing), but I can wholeheartedly recommend "The Making of the Atomic Bomb" by Richard Rhodes.  Seems like it ought to be "sciency" but it's a very readable story.  Don't have to understand physics to enjoy it.  Some real insights in there and interesting review of the giants of physics.

DePoofed!

Thanks Mods!  This thread fits very nicely into  Mixed IMO,  and the books  are gorgeous.   First  time  I've had a chance to see
a 1st ed of  A Clockwork Orange and Atlas  Shrugged.

i have a first u.k., and an inscribed 35th ann. edition, so i'll let this one go.

book club edition books are generally not very collectible--hence that nice lord jim being only a 20 bucks book.   i know of two big exceptions.   early b.c.e.'s of both the catcher in the rye and mockingbird are valuable, as they have the author photos on the back that came off shortly therafter.  here's a gorgeous mockingbird with the photo and the capote pic credit.  these are commonly found on ebay, but the jacket seems to always be crummy--book club jacket paper stock is poor.  this one is beautiful.  i need $450 for it.  SOLD!

how 'bout a first of field of dreams, actually titled "shoeless joe."   hard to see if most of the ones on the 'bay are actually firsts, cuz they don't show you the copyright page and it's thus a crapshoot.  there is a 500 bucks copy that says it has the full 1-10 numberline, so it's likely legit.   i'll do a little better here, and no tax...

$450.
