Books from your personal collection, slabbed/graded FOR your personal collection? 2 2

I want to see the books from your personal collection that you had slabbed/graded solely to keep in your personal collection. Preferably for sentiment because you love it, regardless of any monetary value. Can they be high value keys? Sure. Can they be drek? Sure. If so inclined share your story/reasoning. 

Here's one of mine, pulled from a dank closet and gifted to me. One of my earlier books when I was starting to show interest in the hobby. "You're interested in comics? Check this out..." WELL READ and stayed with me raw for so many years, the grade didn't matter:

Mark jewelers were for comics on American bases around the world.

To see a Canadian price variant on this and have it as blue label, is as rare as they come, 6.0 be darned!

I initially found out about double covers, and that weekend went to the LCS and asked about them. Funny enough, they had just got one in and lucky it came back blue label, as sometimes I wouldnt trust raws of these on ebay.

Walked in to the LCS to see this cover, expecting a higher price for Campbell cover. I looked at it close it was beat, looked at it closer it was a Newsstand Edition, looked at the price that said $10 on the tag.

Picked it up went to check out, and the clerk said, "oh I found this and the owner said throw it away it's so beat, and I told him its Campbell and will sell!"

Long story short, I saved it from the trash! For $10 plus the cost to grade Haha:shy:

I have what I believe to be a better raw copy that I may get graded in the future as an upgrade

would love to have it signed by JRS but chances of having that happen are getting slimmer by the day

I've never slabbed a book from my personal collection, although I've purchased a couple dozen slabs in recent months for my personal collection.  It makes sense to me from a preservation standpoint, or if you're planning to sell, but I'm not a fan of not being able to take them out and read them.  The slabs I've purchased are almost exclusively books I didn't already have so it's frustrating to not be able to access them.

It's not really special, but... I was managing a brick and mortar comics and collectibles store on 9/11. Wasn't much of an ASM fan, but bought this for myself out of our Diamond shipment shortly after. 

Figured I ought to show it some respect and slab it, as the original owner after all this time. Considering that it has probably moved with me 8 or so times, I assumed the unyielding hand of entropy would earn it a 9.4 or 9.6 even if I couldn't see anything wrong.

Happily, even twenty-years-ago me knew how to take care of my stuff.

I got this raw for $4 

I knew it was a classic cover, but I didnt know if I needed the stories inside

So I didn't mind the slabbing for the cover to remember it buy...so basically for the cost to slab

I have quite a few books I purchased raw (off the rack or got a steal on via garage / consignment sales) that I've had graded and then added to my personal collection.
These three are ones that I bought off the rack each from different phases of my life...adolescence / young adult / adulthood...

All the books I've had slabbed are for my personal collection. I chose them to be graded in part because I wanted to see how cgc would grade them and also because I really like the covers and like the look of them slabbed for display. Some of them were valuable and some not so much. I've also bought a few slabbed books because they have covers I really like. Here's one of my favorites I bought around 35 years ago and just got back.

We both did the very exact book for the exact same reason 

Mine is 6.0, national Diamond insert my first of those as well.

Got to say the boards said why? Why? At the Time. Experiment I did, I never even upgraded

This was a book I went out and bought after 9/11 and still have as well.

I was friends with Herb Trimpe before he passed away.  He was a Vietnam Veteran who flew Huey's during the war, I was a Captain in Special Forces.  He used to write me on email when I was deployed during the early day of the wars in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) and Iraq during Operations Iraqi Freedom (OIF).  I had him sign this book for me, that I bought raw, and draw a sketch for me.  After Herb signed it and drew a sketch on it for me I figured I would get the entire creative team of Wolverine to sign: John Romita Sr., Len Wein, and off course Stan.  I love this book, one of my favorites in my collection

Just as a side note, Herb actually did a hand color drawing of the cover for Incredible Hulk 181.  It is a gorgeous piece of art.  That picture is framed and hung on my wall
