I mean, you're right, it would improve the wrinkling. I just think the staple tearing through the book, the rusting and the heavy reader crease are bigger factors in the ultimate grade than back cover wrinkles.

There are many situations where a clean and press will improve the look of a book without actually resulting in a higher grade. I have to add, I am wary of the devil's restoration (pressing,) but then I suspect I would have been one of those men who walked in front of the first automobiles carrying a red flag (had I been born back then.) :preach:
