Only two this year...

1. Cept's "Time After Time" signed and numbered (#13/60) print based on his mural in London.  Missed it when it was initially offered in 2014 and never thought I'd see one pop up again.

2. Saga #1 RRP SS w/ sketches.  Long story short, I sold my 9.8s due to needing monies and swore that I'd only ever replace them with a copy with sketches.

Prior to Covid I finished a few runs up so 2021 was a maintenance year. I did add Green Lantern and Green Arrow to complete (I believe) this set of 70s DC patches.

I bought my limit of Usagi Yojimbo Wanderer's Road #1 Peach Momoko LE 700 variants when IDW dumped them prior to NYCC 2021. 

I switched my LCS this year so I am missing less pulls and having to pay resale less and less. That said, I had to go to the secondary market for this FCBD editon. This title as a whole gets my third spot. Perhaps the best modern horror comic out there? Also symbolizes my enjoyment of the Cartoonist Kayfabe YouTube channel and my changing consumption habits. 

Honorable mention: Spawn Kickstarter action figures (L on both shelves). Pretty sure they arrived after the start of the year. In fact it's been a good year all around for Spawn comics and action figures.

Dark Nights Death Metal 1 signed and remarqued by Puppeteer Lee. Lee is one of my favorite new artists, and I won this on an eBay auction at an absolute steal. I just love how it looks in-hand:

 

 

 

"Puppeteer Lee". I, too, really do like that cover. Very impressive, and on my list! I've noticed a few artists, recently, that go by the name of "Lee". One of my new favorites is Jae Lee. I love the work that he did for Dynamite Entertainment's "Turok Dinosaur Hunter" which I collect.

Jae along with Jim have designed it seems some statues as well

I got Jae Lee to sign a statue, he was very polite and willing, good people!

Really? Wouldn't mind seeing your statue some time. If it's a turok, maybe in the Turok thread? Not sure if this is the right place to show it off? Thanks for mentioning the statues.

Jae Lee also worked on The Dark Tower maxi-series...lots of cover art.

This was a sloooow year for Gold/Atomic Age. Prices have never been higher on desirable stuff and as my collection rounds out there are fewer and fewer things I want that are in a price range I can afford. On the other hand, I added over 100 nice SA Marvels to my collection. I never chased those in earnest, because they were/are seemingly everywhere, but nice raw specimens are getting harder to find as true OO Silver inevitably dries up. When I am lucky enough to come across a nice cache I keep them now. 

Anyways, here are my top 3, with a non-comic honorable mention. 

1. Pep 16: nice eye appeal on this midgrade on a still-underrated blood drainage cover. I love early MLJs, but the secret has been out for awhile and I am all but priced out on the copies I would like. Managed to grab this one, though it was costly. Really happy with it. 

2. Strange Mysteries 11 Bethlehem pedigree: if it's getting tougher to find SA Marvels raw in nice shape, it's next to impossible to find high grade pre-code raw. I love this cover. It's bizarre in all the right ways and I love that there was apparently a working telephone buried with this guy. 

3. More Fun 30: great Flessel cover on this one, with an unusual Middle Eastern theme. I love pre-1940 DC's (especially non-superhero), so was thrilled to add another one from 1938. It doesn't happen often. Dr. Occult interior story too!

Honorable Mention: 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth. My interest in cards (my first collecting love) was reignited 3-4 years ago. Been chasing some of the things I saw as a kid, but never thought I would own.

My 1993 Mazda Miata, completely original.

My 2020 Les Paul worn purple.

My 2021 Epiphone Hummingbird acoustic/electric guitar.

Getting back to the subject at hand…..here’s my 3 top purchases. 
 

I recently started collecting the Spawn Homage covers and I have been lucky on a few of them. The 230 is my favorite of the bunch. 
 

The Daredevil 1 6.5 is the Ohio Copy that I got to replace the 7.5 I foolishly sold before it exploded. 
 

The Superman 11 was an unexpected addition. I saw it on World Wide’s site and instantly bought it without hesitation. Really thrilled with it !

Here are my top 3 of this year: 

JIM 1.  One of the few books that I sold a long, long time ago and always regretted.  This copy isn’t as nice as the one I used to have, but it’s so difficult to find. 
 

The second is Starslayer 2.  I had been searching for a 9.8 white for a long time. Every time a copy came up, the spine was always wonky.  Mis-cut or off-center or something.  So, I finally found a copy that checked all my boxes.  One of my favorite movies when I was a kid, The Rocketeer.  I didn’t find the comics until years later, but this character is near and dear to my heart.  That scoundrel nazi scum Timothy Dalton.  Jennifer Connelly . 
 

And, the third, which should be the first, but, saving the best for last.  AF 15.  Yep, I thought this one was just about out of reach for me.  Turns out, if I would’ve waited 3 or 4 more months, it would’ve been.  I had thought about getting a copy off and on for the better part of the last 15 years.  Yes, I let go a couple really nice books to make it happen.  Including a X-Men 1 3.0.  Totally 100% worth it.

It’s fairly tame by a lot PCH standards, but it is so good.  Simple, yet gets the creepy point across.  Her face screams it all.
