She will fight to unite the warriors of two worlds. You are Wonder Woman.

In development by Monolith Productions, creators of the critically acclaimed Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor™ and sequel Middle-earth: Shadow of War™, this open-world action-adventure game will feature the beloved DC Super Hero, Wonder Woman. The single player open-world action game will introduce an original story set in the DC Universe and allow players to become Diana of Themyscira in the fight to unite her Amazon family and the humans from the modern world.

Powered by the Nemesis System, gamers will forge deep connections with both enemies and allies as they progress from a heroic fighter into a proven leader.

3.   Wonder Woman

First announced during the 2021 Game Awards, the new Wonder Woman game is a single-player, open-world action title by Monolith Productions, the team behind the wildly popular ‘Middle-earth: Shadow of’ duology.

Not much news has been released, though this type of game is Monolith’s forte. Fans of Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War will have an idea of what to expect. Publisher WB Games have confirmed the game will have an original story, so it won’t tie into the films or comics.

In a tweet earlier this month, narrative director Tony Elias teased a mechanic similar to the Nemesis system from the ‘Shadow of’ games, which allowed the player to brainwash and give orders to enemy chiefs. Perhaps randomly generated narrative branches are in the cards, as suggested by a job listing for a senior writer to help the studio with “procedural dialogue.”

The Wonder Woman game doesn’t have a release date, at the moment. Monolith also has yet to confirm what platforms it will come to, though it’s almost certainly coming to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X.

Warner Bros. Finally Answers Questions About Upcoming Wonder Woman Game Being Live Service

Quote

After a recent reveal that Warner Bros. would focus on live service titles for its major IPs, the company had to dispel some fears about the fate of the upcoming Wonder Woman game.

Live service games function as online multiplayer experiences with procedural content updates to which developers can add new content routinely, allowing for deep monetization and long-term profits. However, the live service model has become controversial within the gaming community, with players criticizing titles like Fortnite and Destiny 2 for leaning heavily on microtransactions and seasonal progression systems that sometimes come at the cost of meaningful content.

While Diana of Themyscira is exempt from the live service trend for now, Warner Bros. has not hesitated to turn some of its other DC characters into an always-online experience, such as Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which is set to release next year. From Batman: Arkham Knight developers Rocksteady, that game is currently in development as a live service title and will reportedly have seasonal progression and a battle pass with paid cosmetic unlocks, although Warner Bros. has reassured fans that it will have consistent free content updates.
