PGM FF #18

Here is my copy of Fantastic Four #18. It is my goal to have FF #1 - #20 in CGC-graded slabs. Currently, I have issues #1 - #10 and #12 in slabs; also, issue #13 is currently at CFP, before heading to CGC. With your help, I hope to determine if my remaining issues are slab worthy.

Here are the issues as I see them:

There is chipping along the top of the front cover. There is a small piece missing just to the right of the CCA stamp. There is color loss near Ben’s head on the spine. There are more examples of color loss at the bottom left-hand corner of the front cover. There is tanning at the bottom-right hand corner of the front cover. There are several creases at the top right-hand and bottom right-hand corners of the front cover; I believe that most of these could be pressed out. There is a ¾” tear at the middle of the left-hand side of the back cover. There is a ¼” tear directly above “GIRLS” at the top of the back cover. There is chipping long the top of the back cover. There is a small tear near the bottom staple on the right-hand side of the back cover. There is some creasing over the entire back cover, but I believe that these creases can be pressed out. There is tanning on the back cover, along with tanning on the inside of the front and back cover.

I had been thinking about upgrading this copy, but I am not so sure now. Besides, mid-grade and upper-grade copies of this book are quite expensive. I think that this book could be improved by a cleaning/pressing. What are your thoughts? Thank you so much for your time and consideration.

This is a common question, but one that is imprecise.  A C&P will often improve the appearance of a book, but not necessarily the condition grade.  In this case, you have a book with edge chipping, a medium-sized tear, numerous color-breaking creases & stress lines, and tanning halos on the inside & outside front & back covers.  With or without a C&P, this one should grade out at 4.5 VG+.  A nice example of a book that's nearly tripled in value in the last two years.  (thumbsu
