Pedigree Question 1 1

Does a pedigree add much, or any, value to a book? To be more specific, I have an X-men 52, CGC 8.5 blue label that notes "Northland".

Depends the pedigree. For that specific one, I would say no.

It will help the book sell, but there isn't a big premium on that pedigree as compared to a Church book.

I’d say generally the pedigrees add value, but how much depends on luck, the grade, the book, the pedigree.

On my Silver and Bronze I personally wont pay any more for a pedigree.  The newer CGC label possibly pay be enticing a folks with heavy wallets to pay extra...? Good marketing by CGC on that one if it works

The example mention of Church is a great one, as i understand it command a rather large % premium.  All Church's are pedigrees but no other pedigree is a Church.

And i just googled 'Church Pedigree'. I definitely recall hearing the 'Mile High' pedigree years back. Turns out Mile High = Church.

This.  A pedigree is not only a high grade collection but also the story behind the collection and the original collector.  I’d always want to pay a little more or a lot more for a pedigree book because I appreciate the history

it depends on the book, the pedigree and it's history / importance to the comic industry.  Additionally, is it important to the buyer?

It seems that certain folks collect certain pedigrees, too, so there's always a chance you'll run across a "Northland" collector...

Many moons ago there was a comprehensive book of comic pedigrees in the works.  It was supposed to come out “soon”.  This is like 20 years ago.  Still waiting.
