Shield
For those of you, who worshipped Jack Cole, this is the thread for you. I will posting scans of some of my Police and Plastic Man Comics in the next week. though I know, some of you will want to post his other artwork. How about a nice Comet story from Pep Comics #3, March 1940? Note the comet was totally ripped off by the X-Men, but that's besides the point. This is a controversial story in which the Comet gets hypnotized and KILLS police officers! Enjoy guys....
Timulty
Yee Haw, now that is what I am talking about. According to GCD that comic was published in April of 1940. This proves my point, as to the reason Jack Cole was deserving of Hero Worship. He was Writer, Penciler, Inker etc. Not only that but he was working dailies as well. He was an unusual talent to say the least. To all you out there: Is there a way to embed an image on these posts without a URL?
mrwoogieman
I was reading that Jack Cole committed suicide in the 1960's. Does someone have some biographical information on him?
Timulty
Yeah, here is the wikipedia link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Cole_%28artist%29 And here is a cover pic of Police Comics 102, Can't verify that it is Jack Cole though. Darn, need to resize this image. Edited October 24, 2005 by Timulty
mrwoogieman
Thanks, but all that entry says is that he took his own life, it doesn't really provide any background information at all, just some brief work history. Does anyone else have some more information on his personal life?
rjpb
The book "Plastic Man and Jack Cole" by Art Spiegelman and Chip Kidd is a must for any Cole fan and has a decent amount of biographical information. The cover for Police #102 certainly looks like Cole's work.
Timulty
Yeah, It looks like it but very hard to peg. Now, I have a Plastic Man 56 that is definitely not his work. I have Police Comics 75 also but I cannot get it to scan well due to encapsulation. I am getting ready to add to my Police Comics collection, an 84, 85 and 101. generic user
I second the recommendation for Mr. Spiegelman's book, and would add Ron Goulart's "Focus on Jack Cole" published by Fantagraphics in 1986.
