Popular Post WernerVonDoom
I never set out to collect any of these, but ended up with quite of few. I'm guessing a lot of you do as well. I'll start out with a nice looking Marvel Tales #23 (11/69). Randall Dowling
This is a great idea for a thread. The first comics I really got into were Marvel Tales because at the time, they were publishing the peak of Romita's run and I loved those stories. I was 5 at the time and even when my older brother told me they were reprints, I didn't care (or really understand), I just liked the stories. Same with Marvel's Greatest Comics. Popular Post KirbyJack
I’m complete on Marvel’s Greatest Comics, and just for fun, I’m filling in Marvel Tales and MCIC. Marvel’s Greatest was a must-buy, and like RD, I didn’t care that they were reprints. I just knew I liked them! KirbyJack
There is some interesting original material to be found in these. For a stretch, original covers were made, and there’s a terrific Ditko Dr.Strange pin up in MCIC (10, maybe?). WernerVonDoom
KirbyJack
Yep, it’s MCIC 10. It’s not the only one, either, but I forget where the others are. Finding them is part of the fun! WernerVonDoom and Randall Dowling

shadroch
First book I ever bought at a convention was Marvel Tales 2 for $3. The dealer I bought it from had a shop on Long Island and I was able to get a run of Marvel Collectors Items 1-10 for $10. boomtown
Love these books! Back in the early (mid?) 1980s my local comic shop picked up a large high grade collection. It had been picked over by the time I got there. I picked out complete runs (minus issues #1 & 2) of the 25 cent giants from both Marvel Tales, Marvel Super Heroes and Marvel Collectors Item. He wanted double guide on all of them. I was pissed off but paid it after person_without_enough_empathying for like an hour. They ended up costing me $1 each instead of the .50 guide price. Even today they are the most under priced books on the market. WernerVonDoom, MAR1979 and KirbyJack
shadroch
It was pretty revolutionary to reprint stories that were only a couple of years old at the time. I'd be curious if that was Stan's decsion or did it come down from Martin. I know Goodman used to repackage stuff as much as possible. Popular Post marvelmaniac
I LOVED the 25 cent square bound reprint titles when I was a kid in the 60's. When I got back into collecting in 79 I concentrated on my runs of the main titles so I only collected a few of the reprint books from the 60's, I also used Marvel Tales 137/138 to complete my ASM run of 2-200.
