‘God of War’ TV Series Adaptation Eyed By Prime Video

Quote

EXCLUSIVE: PlayStation’s flagship action-adventure franchise God of War is heading to television. Prime Video is in negotiations for a live-action TV series based on the hugely popular ancient mythology-themed game, sources said.

I hear the series adaptation comes from The Expanse creators/executive producers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby and The Wheel of Time executive producer/showrunner Rafe Judkins as well as Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions, which collaborate on all TV series based on PlayStation games. Reps for Sony and Amazon Studios, which likely will co-produce, had no comment.

This would mark the latest big deal for a TV series based on a popular video game title in a red-hot streaming marketplace for gaming IP. Peacock just landed another SPT/PlayStation property, Twisted Metal, with a series order and Anthony Mackie starring. HBO has coming up the high-profile PlayStation game-based series The Last of Us, starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. Netflix has a Resident Evil TV series in the works, while Paramount+ is about to debut Halo.

Ugh

Was hoping The Last of Us would be the only video game dumpster fire

Yup.  Vikings are getting almost as saturated and played out as zombies.

That could work, but I'd really like to see someone in their 30's take on the role, if possible. Someone who looks to be in the 'prime' of their life.

Good point. He is starting to look his age in Glass Onion. He is still a physical specimen, but looks too old IMHO.

As The Last of Us continues making waves with its success, God of War writer Cory Barlog took to Twitter to share his reaction to the acclaimed HBO adaptation.

Barlog called HBO's The Last of Us everything from "truly amazing, humbling, inspiring, and monumental." Though he also admitted that its success is putting "no small of amount of pressure" on Prime Video's God of War adaptation, which Barlog is involved in.

Good. Up their standards for a better show.

God of War director Cory Barlog has formally debunked recent "rumors" that claimed Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was being considered to play Kratos in the upcoming Amazon TV series. Since PlayStation Productions and Prime Video first announced that a TV adaptation of God of War was in the works, fans have been clamoring to know who will end up playing Kratos in the show. And while Johnson's name is one that some have been floating, it seems that he won't be playing the central role in the series as some believed.

In a recent interaction on Twitter, Barlog himself responded to a rumor that claimed Johnson was being "strongly considered" to portray Kratos in the live-action TV series. Barlog, who is serving as an executive producer on the show, said that he has "literally never heard anything about" Johnson being an option for the part. Given Barlog's own involvement with the series, he's surely privy to the potential casting choices that are being talked about behind the scenes.
