As a young lad of say 12 I liked the finer lines of Adams and later on Byrne and Perez over that of Ditko and Kirby by a large measure. It wasn't until a decades long hiatus when I returned to this now insane hobby that I also understood and found deeper appreciation for Ditko and Kirby.

To many tributes to give him in a post but I give him many kudos for his involvement with Superman and the Siegel & Shuster compensation in the 1970’s. I have many, many memories of meeting him and growing up with his work in the 1970’s.

As a kid, I could spend hours just looking at the art, the cinematic shot and perspective, always wondering "how can someone imagine this in his head and put it on paper?"

he truly inspired so much of what I knew / recognized as DC superhero 'design' (based on playing with hand-me-down 1980s Super Power toys) before I was born...

Oh that's cool! I like how it's a more feral wolvie, or at least one of the styles that paints a picture with Logan.

I really noticed it with the piece. At the time I got it the dealer had several, I was new to the sketch scene and only asked for the one with the most inks

Very sad indeed. I remember him at one of our forum dinners , he was a bit cynical,  a bit strange about his view of how the earth began, but was an amazing artist who impacted comics. He will be missed . I just hope he wasnt buried with that damn blue shirt. R.I.P. Neal.

I liked this cover by Adams as to me it showed there will be a changing of the guard from that early 1960s stuff.

Very sad. Neal went to many of our conventions. He become a part of our convention in a big way. I thought he'd be with us for another 20 years. At the conventions, he always seem very active and robust for someone his age.

I got married in 2004 and as my new wife and I were packing up my (quite awesome) solo apartment to move into our house, she took the task of packing my bookshelf.  As you can all relate - if there was a great comic artist, one of his/her books were on that shelf.  She opened and flipped through many of the hardcovers/trades as she was packing them.  When she got to Vol. 1 of Batman by Neal Adams she asked "...why is the artwork in this book so much better than everything else on this shelf?"

I can't remember when I told Adams that story, but he had his usual wry smile and said "Your wife has very good taste!"

He was a legend in every sense of the word.  When you saw one of his covers, you grabbed it.  This is devastating news.  Thinking of his family and loved ones and while sad, we'll always have his work.  And if they are still making comics in 100 years, some kid will see a reprint of a GL, X-Men or Batman and say "...woah...who is this guy??"

Godspeed Neal.

Without a doubt my favorite silver/bronze age artist and comic creator. I'm still working on completing some of his Detective, GL, Superman, and X-Men runs. I feel fortunate to own some of his bigger books in CGC SS.. I will always treasure these. Truly a sad day for the comic community.
