I look a little preoccupied there.:smile: Great to put faces to names for many folks here. Not a ton of people at the show but every interaction I have had has been quality with enough time to really engage.

Preliminary report.

I was disappointed in the sales on the zillion inexpensive hardcovers I dragged in, even after lowering the price  to $3 apiece they tended to set there. See the first pic of my booth. It's all paperbacks next year. Pulps sold okay, paperbacks at $5 sold very well, paperbacks at $1, even when laid out UNDER the tables, did very well. I even sold a half dozen Big Little Books. Hardcovers at retail sold pretty well. I'm thinning my personal collection and have some beautiful volumes available, lots of lookers, a decent amount of buyers. All I brought in comics was vintage westerns at $5 apiece, they sold and sold.

It was really great to see @catrick339 again.  He always has great stuff.  Unfortunately, I'd already spent most of my allowance by the time I came back around to their booth.  Picked up a nice Dell Dime novel from him.

Otherwise, there was a lot of action between dealers on Thursday night during setup.  Friday was very brisk with good attendance but Saturday was much quieter. Really fun to meet @Ricksneatstuff in person and talk about common interests.  One of many fun moments of the convention for me.  Jim Steranko was sitting next to him inscribing a book for someone while we talked.

Also got to meet @comicjack in person and was really cool to put a face to the name after all these years.  Spent a lot of time hanging out and talking with David Saunders, @Stevemmg and @PopKulture, which was a blast.  David is such a knowledgable guy about pulp illustration art.  I can't even imagine the conversations he grew up around, with that group of artists his father spent time with.  @PopKulture came up with a fun game that we'll have to play a few more rounds of, next time we meet!

So many great guys (young and old), fun to hang out, discuss common appreciations, learn about new things you'd never heard of, show interesting finds that you made.  It really is the best show I've been to in the last few decades.

Gene is great.  Lots of fun helping connect him with a buyer on some cool early Peanuts books.  Next time, I have to look at his stock closely early because he had a lot of nice books.

I have to say, the warmth and general lovingkindness shown by attendees were heartwarming.

I went primarily to try to meet illustration art dealers/collectors to tap their collective mind trust for information on where unknown Ray Johnson original paintings might reside for an upcoming article and had great conversations with Fred Tarraba, David Saunders, Paul Herman and others, who were happy to share what info they had on my obscure current obsession. As has been said, the depth of knowledge in that room was amazing.

That said, I was even more warmed by the love given to my Chicago pal Sharif who went with me, with virtually no knowledge of pulps. Every time I left him to his own devices while boring other attendees with Johnson inquiries, he would come back and tell me of this person or that who approached him and welcomed him to this little world and engaged his curiosities.

Sharif ended up winning two lots at the auction. I had to restrain his bidding hand a couple of times and he was a little sad to leave because he was initiated so kindly. That tells you a ton about this crowd!

Finally although I already mentioned them, there's not a better bunch of guys than @Randall Dowling, @PopKulture and @Stevemmg to shoot the breeze at Steve's table and give us newbies entre to the con attendees, most of whom we did not know previously. We had a great time :cheers:

Thanks Rick. Yeah, other than exceptions, HB books seem to sit for me too. PBs usually sell well for me too. But I usually concentrate on the better covers. Often bring a lot more than $5. Same with Pulps. BLBs are interesting. I have quite a few. I have always really liked them. Hard to leave nice ones in nice shape at flea markets. Haven’t brought out any for sale in quite a while because I keep hearing the market is real soft. Did you have to discount them a lot?

Interesting to hear you sold a lot of Westerns. They are pretty dead out here especially the Dell photo covers. $5.00 a piece? hm

I have noticed I sell a ton of cheap stuff at shows. Happy to get rid of it though and people often buy large piles. So many better venues for the better stuff.
