Jim Lee signing for a book he's already signed /w COA

I have some books that were already signed by Jim Lee w/ COA. So if I send them to CGC for the Jim Lee signing, since he sees that it's his signature and has backed COA for additional validity, would that justify no additional signature needed and could garner a yellow label and not take a hit on the grade due to "marking on book"?

I understand the COA means nothing to CGC, what I was referring to was Jim himself. If he gets a signed copy of a comic with his signature with added proof it was his signature (just for added validity for him), he tells CGC he signed it, would that not be enough for CGC? I mean I guess he could trace over his existing signature... LOL.

So Cgc SS would have to add the following policy: “CGC SS makes exceptions for when a PAID creator who is untrained in signature authentication views a signature an unknown amount of time later that has been in the hands of an unknown amount of owners indicates to CGC that he/she believes that the signature is authentic.”

this definitely seems like a policy that makes sense from cgc’s perspective.

Yes,  under the current policy of witnessing the signing, if Jim did trace over his existing signature, it would get a SS designation. But witnessing an artist  authenticating his own signature would get you a qualified label.  But would be interesting to see a book with 2 JL sigs, SS and with a COA. People may want to own that.

Unless things have changed, I thought that as a technical matter, tracing over an unwitnessed sig was not permitted under CGC policy for purposes of a "universal" (i.e., not Qualified) SS label.  You might be able to find a witness that will allow it, but they're not supposed to.
