Do CGC Magazine Slabs Have Openings on the Sides?

I recently purchased two CGC Golden era Mickey Mouse Magazine Comics on eBay and I noticed the slabs have opening on the sides, enough for me to stick a business card through.

I was wondering if this is normal for a golden era comic?

On the older slabs, you can stick a piece of cardboard in and do away with the so-called Newton Rings.  They cleverly eliminated it in the newer slabs so you have to reslab the books with Newton Rings.

CGC magazine slabs are known for being loose, creaky, basically open on the sides.  It's not a "from that era" thing.  I have a number of them from last year that I can slide things into if I chose.

Just the females.

The males have an extra piece of plastic there to fill the void.
