jg44
Thanks for you time guys. I am planing to sell this book and there is tape along the spine. I am not sure if I should have this removed or not, from what I am reading it seems that I should not remove it unless I plan on keeping it long term. scburdet
The grade is going to be either comparable, or worse by trying to remove the tape. I'd bet on worse since you're likely damaging the paper. You're dealing with a book in the 2.0±1.0, so it's not the difference between a high grade and a low grade book
Mmanick
I think 2.5 with something that notes tape along spine
zzutak
The first question I always ask when I see tape is, "Why was this applied -- what purpose does it serve?" Looking at your scans, my best guess is that the tape was applied to reattach a completely detached front cover. If this is indeed the case, you may actually be looking at a grade of 1.0 FR, similar to the square-bound example shown below. SS #4 is a desirable issue that sells quickly in all grades. Any $$$ spent trying to improve this book would be totally (100%) wasted. No amount of tinkering will improve this book's grade, regardless of whether you call it a 1.0 FR or a 2.0 GD. grendelbo and Mojohand

A split and detached cover makes for a FR book. Maybe you can determine the purpose of the tape and get back to us. Even if the cover isn't completely detached, only a 2" or so split should be allowed in this book's seeming grade range (2.0/2.5).
