Cover Recreations 2 2

What do you guys think of cover recreations? I like seeing someone else's interpretation of the same cover. I also like seeing the cover recreations that have something changed(i.e. Black costume Spidey vs Red suit Spidey). 

I have a couple that I got because I knew I wouldn't have the opportunity to purchase the original cover.

I'm kinda addicted to homages.

I have this Hulk #5 cover by Segovia which is a homage of the Steranko/Severin Hulk King size special.

 

I also have this Hulk 340 homage with Old Man Logan by McNiven

If you like them for personal pleasure, they make sense. Not so sure about their resale value. Probably depends on the subject matter.

They are personally not for me because if I ever commissioned one, I would know it’s not the original.  I much rather prefer cover homages because I have the sense and awe of the original plus the benefit of owning an original:

I commissioned this wall-sized color recreation right here on this forum.

A few others I picked up here and there.

Up until some years ago, I wasn't really a fan of cover recreations . . . then I came across Bruce McCorkindale's re-dos and thought they were, in most cases, spot-on.  A lot of the re-do covers I'd seen by the original artists trying to recreate past glories didn't quite do it for me as, sadly, time and health had taken its toll on abilities.  Added to that, attempts at lettering (by artists with no lettering skills) could often have a detrimental effect.

Bruce would incorporate print-outs of the logo and caption boxes in his recreations . . . tightening up detail where required.  Prices were very reasonably affordable, though I doubt if there's any money to be made in re-sale.  I didn't buy them for that.

A lot of the Marvel silver age covers I asked Bruce to recreate are unlikely to exist . . . and even if they did, would be out of reach of most pockets.

Here are some examples.  In the case of the three ASM covers shown here, I asked Bruce to use an inner splash page transposed to a cover image:
