Is having the artist ink a cover they originally drew in pencil viewed as a negative? 0

I have not actively collected OA since the late 00s and sold off most of my collection in the early 2010s. The only piece I kept was a Cary Nord Conan cover that he did in pencil. He is here at the Edmonton Expo this weekend and I am thinking of checking if he would ink it. Is that a good idea, or should I leave it as it is (pencil)?

If you had the time to scan, convert, and print out nicely, I'd suggest asking him to ink a blueline print of the pencils, and keep the pencils untouched.

Bad idea.  Preserve the art as it is and, as has already been pointed out, go the route of an inked copy

Please don't have him ink the pencils on the original board. Especially if it's a published cover. thethedew gave solid advice. you might not have time before the convention but talk to the artist. It can be done and you could frame them side by side. Best of luck.

The reason why it's a bad idea is your having changes made to what was a finished piece of art is as far as the artist was concerned. Especially if it's published.

Preserve it the way it is so you can see the wonderful pencils for a lifetime.

I'm an old hand at prepping scanned pencils for blueline.  If you can't do it yourself, or can't find a local Graphics guy to do it for you, I can try to help out.

For published stuff - keep as is and do NOT ink directly over. As suggested, get a copy made for him to ink. If it was a commission, go for it if you like

When you do get something done please come back and post pictures. I appreciate you asking the question and taking advice so gracefully. It helps other collectors. I wish you lots of luck whatever you decide to do.
