The Wolverine mini series #3 cover? $35K sounds really low for a 2016 sale, even if it was on Clink.

Back in 2010, It sold at HA for $48K.

JJJ1, hey thanks for clarifying👍

My memory is failing and I wasn't monitoring significant oa sales as accurately in 2010.

So $48k in 2010 would have been a near record amount? Or definitely considered alot of $ for a Miller cover

Please clarify: record amount for what?  A Miller Wolvie cover or any Miller cover, or were you thinking of something else?

People love Wolverine, but the #3 cover is not their favorite.

To put in context, the DD189 cover sold for 100k in 2010.

Sorry to hijack the thread but is anyone familiar with this Catwoman piece in the Jan auction?

It's a really nice piece (to me) but however I've been digging just a little and it appears to me this piece could actually have been painted by a lady called Lynne Feldman instead of Bob Kane.

@duplicatecomics, This came up earlier on this thread. Heritage changed the attribution to "Bob Kane Studio" after I and others complained. I think they should mention Lynne and the lawsuit. I think that extra information makes the piece more interesting, but...

A record for a Miller wolvie cover?

Im thinking the absence of claws may have limited the price compared with issue 1 or 4

I see no record for a public sale of DD 189 in 2010.  I think you meant to say DD 188. which sold for over $101K in 2010.  I think that was a record for a public sale of Miller cover at the time (the DKR #3 splash sold for $448 in 2011).

Just so there's no confusion/memory lapses, here's the DD 188 cover that sold for $101K+

Original Comic Art:Covers, Frank Miller Daredevil #188 Black Widow Cover Original Art (Marvel, 1982)....

The sale of the Daredevil #188 cover was a watershed moment in the hobby - it was the sale smashed the perception that only major/important/key pieces could be valued in the 6-figures. Don't get me wrong, it's a very good cover, but, it's not DD #158, #168 or #181 and the result was considered pretty shocking at the time.

Couple of whales slugging it out on that one if I remember correctly.

Although people may not love the Wolverine #3 cover (similar to the Dark Knight #3 cover), it may be the only one those famous four covers that comes available again anytime soon (although I'm not sure who currently owns it and they may not even want to sell it).  Even that cover, should sell for $250-$500k at this point which I guess is why nice pages from the Limited Series have started cracking 6 figure sums.  I could see the #1 and #2 covers selling for over $1M if they were ever to come to market which is highly unlikely given the collections they are in.

Which goes to show that you can never overpay for OA, and prices never go down.

Thanks for correcting me JJJ🙂

And yes while it's not DD 158, 168 or 181 I do think this cover is some of miller's finest art

I remember when this sold and it didn’t shock me at all that it went so high. I can also remember very well how collectors were griping about the anatomy, the positioning of the characters and how they couldn’t believe THIS cover sold for $101,000 because it was so poorly drawn and not nearly of the same quality as other artists’ covers. 😂
