Hugh Jackman Signing Options

Hi everyone,

This is my first post so I hope I’m doing it right..!

I’m planning on submitting one, maybe two books for Hugh Jackman signing but wondered if I could ask you fine folks for opinions or advice?

I am thinking of submitting either;

  1. Wolverine LS #1 9.0, signed by Claremont, Miller & Rubinstein
  2. Death of Wolverine #1 9.6, signed by Stan Lee & Charles Soule
  3. X-Men 2 Prequel: Wolverine Photo Cover.

I’ve attached photos of the CGC ones and I’m going to see if I actually have the prequel Raw today but I’m hoping you all might be able to give ideas and thoughts on the books?

I have notes for you too:

Wolverine LS #1 -

light spine stress lines to cover
small, multiple crease right top of front cover

This book originally was 8.0 when signed by Claremont & Miller but was then pressed by CCS for Rubinstein’s signing. Surely “small, multiple crease right top… etc” is another pressable defect that could be removed for grade bump?

Death of Wolverine #1 -

light scuff back cover

If you could please let me know what you think if I had all 3 books and then if I only had the CGC ones?

I don’t plan to resell immediately, everything is for the PC but I’d also like opinions on whether or not having Hugh sign any would increase the value or just waste my money?

Thank you very much in advance for any opinions and help, it is hugely appreciated.

I would never add celebrity signatures to a book they were in no way associated with.  Imagine Henry Cavill signing an AC1.  No way.

I'm all for celeb signatures on books in which their likeness is portrayed, or photo covers.

revat said it perfectly and succinctly.  It's not even close.

It is the 3rd option. However, I would add a qualifying opinion about grade for a celebrity signing on a book they played the character of but are not represented as a photo nor did they work on it.

Jackman is synonymous with Wolverine at this point in fandom. If I didn’t have the photo cover and the Wolverine 1 was a raw low or mid grade, I would consider a Jackman on it.

Agreed that the photo cover is the one to go with... but that's just an opinion that is shared amongst many of us boardies.

With that said, I feel that the general consensus in the marketplace is that any book is fair game for a Jackman signature.  I bet the majority of books submitted for his sig will be the LS #1 or Vol 2 #1.

Jackman's signature was fairly rare up to this point.  There weren't that many opportunities for signings, and, combined with his popularity, the value always commanded a premium.  However, simple economics... the higher the supply, the lower the price.  I don't think the price will come down too much, but the number of Jackman sigs is only going to rise as time goes on.

Still, if you're only looking for a bump in value, get EVERYTHING signed.

I'd vote for photo covers as well for celeb signatures.  I was lucky enough to get a Jackman signature many years ago at a premiere for Real Steel he attended.  It's one of his quick signatures, but it is a great memento from a cool event.

That really is a quick signature.

Definitely.  I'd be more disappointed with the signature if it wasn't such a cool event.  He ran all over the place and did his level best to quickly give each person in the front row either a signature or lean in for a selfie.  He seems to genuinely care about his fans...who funny enough were largely women in their 30's and 40's.  Not exactly the target demographic for a movie about boxing robots.  :roflmao:

I was able to get 2 other books done, those these are long gone at this point:

So there was a CGC facilitator at the Real Steel event?
