Sometimes it's this, sometimes it's just not realizing that CGC has different criteria than what used to be the "consensus" for grading a book (e.g., CGC's apparent obsession with the spine and its integrity with the staple). In the 80's I believe we valued corner sharpness more. GA books were graded using same criteria as modern books.

 

CGC has altered the grading rules (now "accepted" by most of us because we have little choice) as much as they have heightened our propensity to scrutinize books.
