I'm struggling to even want to bid on it. Visually, it's almost ruined. I say almost, because he could have gone one step further and signed on her face.

Stan Lee autographs are legendary for their level of derision, this is the first one I can recall seeing on an original (at least in my area of collecting). Please show me I'm wrong in chastising a Stan signature on an original - serve me up some Stan sigs on originals that don't disrupt the eye flow of the piece.

Almost every Campbell cover that's been on auction in the last year has had a Stan Lee signature on it.

They were mostly on ComicLink so you can't see them anymore, but if you search "Campbell cover" on CAF you can see some of the ComicLink CAF listings for those covers, and yeah most of them have Stan. The running theory is that there was 1 big Campbell collector who had Stan sign his entire collection (I have absolutely nothing to base this on other than the absurd amount of Stan Lee signed Campbell covers, just pure conjecture from me and my friends)

I heard a different story regarding the Campbell/Stan signatures.... anyone in the know want to tell it?

I'd love to hear the alternative version.

That's a massively awesome collection of covers. I'm sure my reaction comes across as judgy, because it's obviously up to the owner to do whatever they want since they paid for it - but man. Some of those are just simply defaced.

Unrelated to the Campbell covers:

With a Thing catchphrase to boot. Now that's an appropriate placement for a signature.

Hey, at least it's a character he created, and in her vintage costume..... they had him sign covers with Psylocke and Spider-Gwen, etc.

I’m not in the know, but weren’t a lot of these bad sig pages from the collection of somebody that worked for Stan that allegedly stole from him? I seem to remember accusations of the collection now being sold purchased with money allegedly stolen from Stan.

True - I'm guessing that was the owner's reasoning behind that. The flipside of that argument is that Marvel Girl was just the token girl character he created to be on the X-Men. If I recall, it wasn't until awhile later (I think when Roy Thomas was on it) that they really started making her a component, rather than just the girl everyone hit on. Stan Lee signing Spider-man or the Thing seems more appropriate, given his investment into the characters.

So question for the board on that FF page: does that look like "76" or "96?"

The angular straight edges at the top bar make it look like a "7," but was Stan signing Marvel OA in '76?  Does that fit in with the timeline of returned pages, etc..?

I’ve also heard a different story, but obviously I have no direct knowledge. Does yours involve Stan’s handler?

Yes that story was floated out there.
