Nschenks
Here's a fun one for ya'll. Looks like a miscut page that someone attempted to correct in a really annoying way. Tear is about 2 inches, and the fold appears to be glued back (sadly). Curious as to your thoughts about how this would affect the grade of the book. Let's say it is otherwise 9.2/9.4. Would this get hit with a qualified? I'm thinking it would because of the glue (which I can't actually see residue/evidence of but I can't physically pull the flap back so I assume it is there), but I'd love to know what others think. ***EDIT: On further examination it is not, in fact, glued. So just the tear and fold. Still interested in thoughts though! Edited February 25, 2023 by Nsschenks
Nschenks
(Thankfully wasn't an expensive book and the person I bought it from immediately refunded like 90% of the cost of the book. Don't plan on grading it, but it'll present nicely in my PC--just curious how it would affect grade because I've never seen anything like this before.) Not sure how hard CGC would hammer that defect if you were to request a blue label rather than qualified. You could roll the dice and hope CGC misses it entirely Nschenks

I imagine with their volume some interior stuff slips through the cracks every now and then.

Nschenks
So just edited the post, but it appears the fold is not glued (I dumbly assumed it was because it didn't lift the first time I tried ). Just the big ole tear and fold. TBH if it was otherwise 9.2/9.4 and the tear wouldn't bring it below 8.0, I'd still be tempted to get it graded (and maybe get lucky lol). Thoughts? Axe Elf
A coupon cut out of an interior non-story page would take it down to about a 3, but this isn't really completely cut out--just a long interior tear. My guess is that it would still drag it down below 8.0 if it were noticed during the grading process. Nschenks

My guess is the page being a coupon was just a coincidence, as the tear looks to be an attempt to fold in the poorly cut page (which seems pretty stupid considering it probably could have been folded in without tearing the book, for the same effect lol). EDIT: Also, the beginning of the tear is exactly where the miscut starts Edited February 25, 2023 by Nsschenks

It may be possible that the page was torn and folded during the assembly process and before the pages were trimmed. I say that because of the way it's trimmed flush along the left edge, even though some "overhang" seems to be left on the rest of that folded-up edge, as well as on the bottom edge--which would indicate that the book was trimmed after the fold was made. Hm that's interesting--would that be potentially seen as manufacturing if that was the case? The overlapping part is weirdly flush with the rest of the page when folded over. I can take a picture of it unfolded if that's helpful. (Now I'm almost tempted to get it graded just to see what CGC will do...)

There's no "may" or "possible" about it, this is a manufacturing defect. But there's still a larger tear than I've ever seen with this defect before. More commonly, this defect has the paper just folded rather than torn and folded, in which case CGC basically ignores it. Thanks for the reply! I'm leaning towards just sending it in, so we'll see what happens. At the very least the comic presents really nicely, so even if I get slammed, I'll still have a pretty copy to display

Nah not a key..Batman Beyond 2 lol. But it’s a NS which is tricky to find in high grade, and I wanted to have a graded set. You’re prob right though, may just be better to keep my eye out for a more surefire high grade copy. The Lions Den
