Popular Post Artboy99
This is quite the collection by a man who lived in Detroit. Do we know this collector here on the boards? bffnut
I saw this video and wondered the same, if the father (Dale/Dell Watts?) was a member of this community because so many of those comics are graded. But many of those comics have a custom label CGC made for this collection, so I am guessing they were graded after the father passed away.
Popular Post 01TheDude
that these news people keep referring to it as hoarding is just ridiculous. Popular Post piper
I think they were a little hard on the Dad. That family hit the jackpot! Popular Post Axelrod
This makes me embarrassed for the day I pass and people go through my stuff. At first, they might get excited like "oh, wow, comic books. He must have some valuable ones...." And then, the crushing disappointment. "That's it? That's all there is?" Popular Post valiantman
She said that this "embarrassing problem" was even reason for their divorce. I really hope that the ex-wife in this video gets nothing... except what the son wants her to have. Are we supposed to feel sad for her? EDIT: They said the collector was a lawyer, right? Maybe he specified exactly what she gets (or doesn't). Popular Post lostboys
Before he passed, he shouldve sold the entire collection to a random 14 year old comic lover for $1. The family was so ashamed? yeah enoy those millions to help get over your idiotic shame It 100% was hoarding. It's pretty clear that in some ways the dad poured more into the hoard than he did into his family. The son still obviously was very emotionally attached to his dad - but he clearly wanted the dad to include him more in whatever the dad was into. They hinted at the fact that no one was allowed to touch anything. It's possible that no one else was allowed into the home. It seems like a pretty jacked up situation. DeadOne
Honestly makes me a bit sick to my stomach that the adage, "You can't take it with you", is so true. Sad story. D2
Popular Post Black_Adam
It's going to be sadly ironic for my heirs when they try to cash in my prized Richie Rich comic collection and discover that they are, in fact, not rich... jimjum12, bronze_rules, ThothAmon and 7 others 5 4
davidpg
Yeah, you gotta start realizing the news does less informing and more sensationalizing. The general population find ''hoarding'' fascinating, so people will more likely listen. jimjum12
Popular Post ThothAmon
Accumulating 300,000 comics over decades? Definitely meets my definition of a hoarder. Told my kids about this. Their response “seen it”! Lol. F For Fake, ender, Gonzimodo and 5 others 2 1
Popular Post Black_Adam
If you have tens of thousands of comics bagged and boarded and stored and organized in longboxes, you're a collector. If you have tens of thousands of comics heaped in random piles across every inch of your house and you don't blink an eye when the cat pees on them, you're a hoarder. valiantman, lizards2, rakehell and 16 others 16 2
Readcomix
I can’t find “Fantast” as a boardie handle, so I guess he wasn’t on here. Is Harley Yee ever on here? Surely, someone who amassed 300,000 books in the Detroit area must have crossed his path. piper and jimjum12 1
