Mokiguy
For a 61 year old book, I don't think it's too bad overall and would have a pretty good idea of what I think the grade would be without all the bumps and lumps on the cover. The other day I posed a question in the Newbie forum about how to grade lumps, dents and bumps. And that's why I'm posting this book ..... I was recommended to do so. I tried as best to photograph the dents and bumps, but it's tough to do, So I am hoping that you don't just grade the book but if you would please explain how you asses that lumpy bumpy cover and how it plays into your overall grade. And the glare makes the cover look abraded, but it's just the glare from trying to show the bumps dents and lumps. Thank you
WestCoast Will
Considering there aren’t many color breaks this seems like a good candidate for a pressing imo
HighRadArt
I would call it a Good or 2.5. "A collectible that shows significant evidence of handling with several moderate defects". Color breaking creases, lots of bends and indents, tape pull on the spine, small tears, staple pulls and rust. Without all the indents and bends maybe a VG. KCOComics
I think it's a 3.0. If you pressed the book it would help reduce the bumps and I could see the have improving to a 4.5 So 1 point to 1.5 would be about the important of the bumps in my opinion
scburdet
4.0/4.5 if pressed.
Yorick
I will say 3.0 as it stands now. Since you are specifically asking about the "bumps", I am taking about a 0.5 - 1.0 grade away for all the non-color breaking stresses. That book pressed doesn't go a whole lot higher due to the tears, spine stresses, and corner blunting. Maybe up to a 4.0 after a press.
LowGradeBronze
To address your question about how lumps and bumps affect grade is really hard but I'll have a go: Your book here has some other age and handling related wear and tear apart from the lumps etc and for me comes up overall as a 3.5 Without the lumps etc your book still has a lot of wear round top staple and some creasing, and would be VG at best, so all in I'd say the lumps etc knock this book down 0.5 for me. It would be more of a hit on an otherwise mint book. One of my books would probably be a 7.0 without someone (!) having sat on it once, so it looks around a VG to me albeit a really nice looking VG. Hope this helps.
