Ready for a petty post? A couple years ago I reached out to an acquaintance in the hobby about buying a page he showed me. He said he'd "let it go for 30k." I told him other pages from the issue had sold for 1100, and even though this was a splash page, 30 doesn't make sense. I offered 15k. He responded something along the lines of "No. Keep collecting your Space pages, I'm sure those have more value." (Heavy sarcasm.) He came back 2 years later and offered it to me for the 15k I had offered 2 years earlier, but his snarky comment the last time had made me decide to buy nothing off of him. So it was with great pleasure that I watched him put it up for auction in this past Heritage auction and spectated as it ended under 10k. He walked away with approximately 7500. You can either reach out to Heritage to see if the winner would agree to sell it or try submitting an offer through the "Make an Offer" function. Sometimes it's something that you ALWAYS will still want, and sometimes a switch is flicked and you lose all interest. I'm in the no-interest camp right now. Otherwise, I agree, great idea. Even getting the art at a discount, you'd be forever thinking of the negative associated with it, and probably never truly enjoy the piece in the way you would have had he taken your initial offer. And besides, anyone dissing 'space pages' is a dilettante at best anyway.
