Are any of them pressed? Serious question...

Jim

I really no have no idea and anyone who claims a book has been "pressed" must have been there when it was done! I could line up 10 books, some pressed and I doubt anyone could find the pressed books. It's such a misnomer. If it's a good job, it's not noticable.

You say that as an authority? Not saying you are but your non-answer to my question previously has thrown up red flags in my eyes...

So I can assume that the comics I bought from you before are unknown? I ask because they sure as hell feel "flatter and stiffer" than normal comics I've held...

Good thing I brought a couple with me to compare...

What books did you buy from me, that was a while ago? No clue what they are?

SGT Fury 94, 100 and 103

Iron Man 64

Marvel Tales 33

And these are a couple I have in hand...there are many others I don't have right now but could get once I have access to the main computer records...

Come on Stuart...are you not keeping records yourself... confused-smiley-013.gif

Here goes. I bought the Sgt Fury books from a woman in NY. She was selling a collection of books her friend had. She sells pottery or something like that. Not a main stream daler by any means. I looked at countless scans before I bought her out. One paypal tranaction and she was pretty happy about it. I spent over 2K. The Sgt Fury books were sealed in packages of 10 or so issues. I had to unwrap the plastic wrap. She unwrapped them once to scan them and wrapped them back up again. I still have some of that collection. Sorry, not pressed. Unless pressing that many books together for 30 years is "pressing".

The Iron mans are file type copies. Those also came from NY, from a weird guy he rarley answer emails. I bought three runs of Iron Mans over the past few years. This man had mutiples of the same issues. He would not elaborate on where they came from, but he has one more run of Iron mans and I am trying to buy it.

Marvel Tales 33, one incredible book. I bought that from Ed Derwent, online, a few years back. His ebay name is eddertoo. He has some wonderful books, but he does over grade a bit. He tends to misses light creases and stress lines. Not sure if he pressed it, you would have to ask him. I have not had a copy as nice. I love those 25 cent giants. I remember it well.

Aswering your point raised above, I just can't give you a fake answer. I have no clue if these books were pressed. None what so ever. I will be happy to buy them back. Just let me know.

Problem solved. A full refund, months after the fact. If you think some sort of secret deception is in the midst, return them. I will even cover the postage back to me!

I wish I had some of the books back I sold over the years. This is one way to get them back. A full refund.

Sorry, I really don't keep exact records. I can review sales going back a year or so, but many times people just paypal me the funds and say "boards". I know what they bought at that time, it's a day or so old, but asking me about sales a while ago is not my area of expertise. The last PM I received from you was early this year. It doesn;lt say what you bought, just that paypal was sent? I sold some books last night on the boards. The paypal said "boards". A year from now, heck a month from now I may not remember what they bought?

I am glad you keep good records. foreheadslap.gif

You know what, now that I think about it I have a good memory relating to comics. Everything else is a huge blur, but I did remember those purchases. I stand corrected. Ask me anything about the comics I once owned!!!!!! hail.gif

Stuart...I don't doubt you...despite not answering my original query...

My concern is these comics exhibit the same "ridgeness" as the copies I bought pressed and worked on by Matt Nelson a couple of months ago. To say no one can determine pressing is a fallacy once you have similar comics in hand...

I still disagree. If you smash a books and ruin it, it's pretty obvious, but Matt nelson can do some incredible pressing jobs, just ask him. He's good.

I have bought some incredible original owner collections over the years. They were stored so nice they look and feel like new. I bought 3K comics from a man who worked at World Color down in Sparta, IL. They printed the books there. He took home books almost every day. He saved them and they looked like new. No pressing involved. He just stock piled them. It is possible to find superb copies and I try to whenever possible.

If you look hard enough you will see signs of pressing in any nice copy, butthat's not an indicator the books has been worked on.

My offer for a full refund still stands.

There's a difference between a "new" feeling comic and one that's been pressed. If you've had the difference in your hands you'd know...there a ridgeness to the comic and the suppleness is gone. It's clear and unmistakeable...

As far as a refund....it's not worth it for me right now...but thanks for the offer...

In the spirit of the holidays,I hereby offer full refunds on any SA book I sold prior to 1987.I'll pick up the shiping as well.

With all this uncertainty about pressed or not pressed, its safer just to ship them back.

I'll even extend this offer to any book bought from Robert Bell and/or Bruce Hamilton.

Well, that tops my refund offer.

I suppose I should reconsider my refund date policy. I think I will go back to 1982, yep, 1982.

awe4one, in regard to the feeling of a pressed comic, do you mean a rigidness (as in a firmness to the book) or ridgeness (as in sort of ridges running through the book). As far as I know I have never seen a pressed book. I have seen a lot of other types of restoration done, most of it badly, out here on the West Coast. I just want to know before I start dropping too much money on high grade Golden Age books.
