Can you make a section for "I've read all the comics in the line that I collect so now I just buy them b/c I want a nice H.G. collection" or "I buy nice copies because they feature covers I enjoy and characters I like"? smile.gif

Well I guess..but I don't think I've sold enough of my books to consider it a portion..maybe a handful? I think "I've read and collected books for many years and have only sold a few books from my private collection, the rest will remain indefinitely or until upgrading is feasible" is better tongue.gif

Trouble is with this kind of poll is that no amount of options would ever be enough. Collectors have so many reasons/ways they collect and change collecting over time that it is very hard to quantify. grin.gif

That's the category that I fall into BO...hence the reason I was unable to participate in this poll...perhaps if you could select more than one option.... crazy.gif

Point by point:

1)I buy and sell comics regularly for/from my collection. I do both of these but I sell very, very little from my personal collection

2)I have collected comics for a long time and have them stored away with no intent of selling right now. True

4)I collected comics and was away from it for awhile. Now I'm back and I still have my old collection. This is true. With the advent of eBay and CGC I have been sucked back into the hobby with the same, if not added, furvor in my accumulation and collecting habits.

And to add to these: I am now also in upgrade mode.

I'd say for you #4 only because you don't really sell any from your collection and have them stored away with no intent to sell. I think of upgrading this way. Your just replacing the books with better ones. So your collection is basiclly the same but improved. You also been away from the hobby so that puts you in #4 catagory.

I tried to cover as many different situations as possible. BTW; I kind of do these type of polls for the company I work for. Usually all industrial type questions that have to do with the production of the company. Just thought I'd try something different in the way of comic collecting. Kind of neat to see what kind of collectors are visiting these boards.

"I collected comics and was away from it for awhile. Now I'm back and I still have my old collection"

Change "collected" to "Collect", and substitute "Now I'm back" with "I've been back for a while, upgrading some books, filling in holes"......

The only time I sell comics, is when I need money to make another purchase. I only sell books that I've upgraded, or that I already had multiples of in my collection.. Lately I've only really been buying "slabbed" books. Nothing all that expensive, but just issues I wanted to have in a nice grade. Aside from a couple books, I'm pretty much done buying for a while. I'm at that point where I picked up most of the things that I "really" wanted, and I don't want to sell any more books from my original collection. If there is a point where you are "DONE" collecting, I'm pretty much there. I wanted to "slab" about a hundred or so of my raw books, but it's too expensive. Instead of spending that money to "KEEP" my own collection, I decided to use that money to buy about 30 CGC books, and few issues that I was missing. I don't know.......what kind of collector am I? What am I babbling about anyway........................

As per your discription I'd also say your a #4.

Its kind of cool hearing some of you describe yourselves as a collector. I know its not the perfect poll, but heck! Its better then nothing. It has you think about how you collect and gives us all a chance to see what kind of collectors are on these boards.

From what I see in the poll so far, I'd have to say most are veteran comic collectors, people that have collected for a while. I guess the newer collectors don't do polls.

Is there a pick there for ... I collect Murpho's leftovers? Each night I pray that Murpho will buy a higher grade comic so that I may have the leftover 8.5's 9.0's and 9.2's. Of course when I get those leftover's they immediately become the "Gem" of my collection!

Keep the faith!
