I was wondering what those grades in parenthesis are and why some grades weren't same as in pictures I have saved in my computer....

Yes, I found a bunch of resubmits but that should hardly be

any surprise. Most were within one notch.

Some of the grades are pre-CGC - I took the most solid grading

data I could find for each issue: AACG(?) for Sotheby's, by Christies,

All Star etc. When the same issue was graded multiple times, I

put them in parenthesis for completeness (same for issues that

CGC has graded multiple times).

List is still far from complete, but it should already cover most

of all pedigrees sold at major auctions in the since 1990. I

have not included rumors, second-hand reports etc. - only

what I consider to be solid data.

Yes, most resubmits are within one grade. Most are former Nic Cage books so I think that those graders just saw too many high grade books at the same time, so their grading was ultra-strict.

Thanks for the corrections & additional refs, btw. I am going to add those in.

One early observation is that I have not seen a single Church copy among

the first 50 Marvels. This is interesting given the large number of Adventure

and More Fun Church copies that have been offered in the last 5 years (along

with some scattered Action and Detectives). Also, given Nic Cage's focus

on pedigrees & this series, I bet he would have traded his Oscar

for an early Church Marvel. Thus, it seems likely that these have not been

on the market for a very long time... Does anyone have the scoop on this?

Is the run still intact somewhere?

John Verzyl of Comic Heaven owns most of the Church Timelys.

And no, I do not have any "proof" ... just one of those things you hear through the grapevine from people (Chris Foss of Heroes & Dragons in this case). YMMV.

Arty, I added your info; thanks again for ironing out my typos.

I'll have to triple check on the SF#34 - unless I made a mistake

in my first listing, this could be the first book I know of that has

been bumped twice...

PedigreeMan is correct in his assertion!

I have heard from long-time dealers such as Fishler and John Snyder that John Veryzl does indeed have ALL of the Church Timelys as part of his personal collection. There are a few exceptions to this with the Captain America #1 being the major exception. If you are wondering, I do not believe that you will be seeing any of these Church Timelys entering into the market at any time within the foreseeable future.

Wow, thats some collection of books. Do you know if he got them straight from CR after the find or did he aquire them later?

He acquired them sometime later. He also doesn't own the Church copy of Red Raven #1 (and probably others). At one time I owned some Marvel Mystery Church copies that I got straight from CR. A couple issues somewhere between #31 - 35.

I own the Mile High/Church copy of Marvel #89, it is a 8.5. I also have:

Marvel #7 9.2 Nova Scotia

Marvel #16 9.2 San Fransisco

Marevl #56 8.0 Rockford

John Verzyl has been a close friend of mine for 11 years. He will NEVER sell those books, so do not bother! He loves them, can you blame him!?!?

Thanks. When I made these lists, my hope was that they would inspire

owners of pedigree books to come forward so we could assemble the first

ever comparison of the most famous collections. Wish someone could

inspire Verzyl, Anderson, Berk, Geppi & Co. to help improve the list...

I missed this thread, I owned a few Marvel Mystery issues.. 24, 35 ,45, and 48. All were raw, I know what some of them came back as though. On the 24, the nicest copy is non-pedigree. Mine came back a 7.5, however, I don't believe 2 of the copies which are nicer (and pedigrees) have been graded. My 35 came back a 6.0, not sure what the 45 or 48 were though (both were 7.5's IMO).

Since this is such a key title, I expanded orginal list from 50 to 100 copies.

Thanks a lot to arty, murph0, timely, and ghoulaid for corrections and additions.

Interesting to note that only a single Church copy has been documented so far.

A large set of Crowley copies sold together at Christie's as a single lot.

I'll dig around and see if I can find exactly which Church Marvel Mysterys I had. Most of the time I keep accurate lists and I'm sure we all appreciate accuracy in projects such as you're doing. smile.gif
