So you're saying you can come up with better CGI? I'd guess that's going to be about as good as it gets for a guy who shoots webbing from his hands and swings through New York's skyscrapers.

Totally agreed on the Green Goblin though, what a stupid costume.

I thought Tobey Maguire (sp?) was quite good as Peter Parker but so-so as Spider-man

What is that supposed to mean? That I should accept poor CGI just because I don't own 5,000 multi-processor servers to handle the load?

Part of the magic of movie-making is choices, and deciding which computer effect or real-world stunt works best and applying it. The Matrix is an example of where the mix is about right, while Spider-man leans a bit too heavily on CGI technology that isn't quite ready to carry a flick.

I think there's plenty of room for improvement as far as the Spidey CGI goes. The overall Spider-Man shots, while mostly effective, were a bit wobbly in places. The wall crawling scenes especially could have been better, and hopefully in the next film will be

shouldnt you have The Crow on that list. a better story and acting than any of the other films, plus not a ton of special effects (other than those stemming from the whole early demise of B lee thing) and all done on a relatively small budget/ low hype basis. the crow should be #1 on this list.

I did say that it was a recent list for films over the last few years. I may start another poll once this has run its course with a wider range of older comic book films, hopefully to please all those that didn't know/ like any of the new stuff. goodevil.gif

my mistake. i saw batman & robin (1997) and figured that the crow (1994) might stretch. well if you do start a more encompassing poll, make sure you stick the crow on it then. thanks

I put that one in just to appease the DC fans. DC havn't made any movies recently.

But I will put the Crow into the next poll, I also think that it was a pretty cool movie, shame about what happened to Brandon Lee though. frown.gif

"Flash! Ahhh-ahhhh - he saved everyone of us!" Flash Gordon with music by Queen listed?

Here's a lovely story.

I was home from college for Christmas break, and 7 of my friends and I decided to see our first X movie. There was a triple feature playing at an outdoor theatre, so we piled into someone's dad's 'big car' and settled in for some laughs.

Eight girls crammed into the front and back seat of a car on a cold December night in Wisconsin to watch an outdoor porn festival -- who came up with that brilliant plan? Not me. But it was hysterical.

First up was "Dagmar's Hot Pants." We arrived near the end of this one and all we could figure out was that Dagmar was Swedish and no one was wearing any pants. We decided to get popcorn.

The next film was "Flesh Gordon" and it was hysterical (these were all very tame X movies, obviously. Mostly campy, silly films, with lots of teases and not much else. It was a different, more innocent time, lads).

Flesh Gordon was everything you'd want in a schlocky space movie of the variety in which MST3K used to delight, with some, er, differences. I think the forum filters will excise any details of the film, so I can't tell you any of my favorite parts other than a large monster who had hemorrhoids and who ended up with a spaceship suppository.

The final film was an Alice in Wonderland based film, and the only thing I remember about it was that the top of her dress kept falling off (it was loose and filmy and when the shoulder strap slipped, it revealed its treasures. That strap never stayed in place more than 3 seconds in a scene).

After being hit on by a car full of boys, eating too much popcorn, and steaming up the windows due to cold, not lust, we finally headed home -- all deciding that Flesh Gordon was by far the finest film of the night.

I highly recommend it.

Joanna - a most interesting observation! Flesh Gordon has long been seen as one of those softcore films that are actually GOOD and very funny, and it is pretty col to see you having the same reaction. I have yet to see it but will add it to my list.

Well.....I just saw Daredevil this weekend. It lived "down" to every low expectation that I had of it. What a lame movie! Affleck was horrible, totally wrong as Matt Murdock. The movie had a Batman-esque look, and no real feel of it's own. The costume was cheesy. They should have stuck w/ his true origin. The "senses" scenes were pretty goofy as well.

The whole Kingpin/Daredevil dynamic wasn't played upon near enough. In fact, the only thing that I can think of that was really good in the movie was how stunning Jennifer Gardner looked (I never saw what the big deal w/ her was. She was absolutely gorgeous in this movie). DD is the "beginning of the end" for this run of comic-based movies (X2 is only prolonging the inevitable).

You're dating yourself, although I too saw Flesh Gordon in a drive in (the late, lamented Route 53 Drive-In in Palatine, Illinois). Also saw Mannequin and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre in an orgy of bad film-making. Three HS couples, a stationwagon and a case and ahalf of Pabst. Ah, early 80s memories!

Flesh Gordon Reviewed!

Dagmar's Hot Pants Reviewed!

Rather pesimistic Chris. 893naughty-thumb.gif

While I agree that Daredevil was below par, I don't think it will have a big impact on Marvel's movie success. We still have Spidey 2 and the Hulk to come, and it sure seems like X2 is doing rather well at the box office.

We cannot expect all super-hero flicks to live up to our expectations, and I like to think of Daredevil as a small blip on an otherwise healthy line.

I am optomistic, especially with the recent CGI advances, that we will continue to see great movies being made by Marvel.

I agree that, no matter how horrible it was, Dulldevil will not be the beginning of the end. It takes at least two strikes before the studio suits start to worry.

Then again, if Hulk comes out to bad reviews and a DOA second week, then it is entirely likely that Spidey and the X-Men will be the only Marvel movie franchises for the forseeable future.

Well, it's no secret that I have a lack of faith in Hollywood; they won't let me down. I agree with you, X2 is doing very well, and I alluded to that (I didn't say it was a bad movie...everything I've heard has been outstanding). We had Spidey, and it was a blockbuster! DD was just the beginning in a long line of crappy comic movies to follow.

Same pattern as Batman. Batman was huge. Then what did we get? TMNT, Captain America, Punisher, Spawn? We got lucky w/ "The Crow". Same thing is happening here. Spidey - huge. Roll out the [!@#%^&^], get lucky with X2.

After seeing Daredevil, I'm really worried about the Hulk. frown.gif

Hey! I really enjoy TMNT! I mean, what are you gonna do with four turtles and a rat? What I liked best about it was that the characters were not cgi but some pretty good makeup. Call me a kid. Call me a jerk. Call me an imperceptive one. But I just enjoyed TMNT.

PS - just don't call me late for supper!
