Seems like a list of books NOT to have graded...Thoughts

6 posts in this topic

I found this auction today and got to thinking (must be why I have a headache). Should these books have even been graded or am I missing something here?

I am used to hearing about 9.0 and up books on this board and it takes me aback when I see books like this that were apparently graded in the hopes of making more money as apposed to the "raw" copy.

Was this person wrong to grade these copies or is there some strategy out there that I don't know about that makes these more valuable or collectable because they are slabbed?

Should these have been graded?

I'd say no. With the exception of the biggest and most expensive keys the difference between what you can sell a lower-grade book for raw and what you would get slabbed are rarely worth the grading fees/ time required.

not just pointless- maybe even money-losing. with the exception of the Hulk 181, the guide value of the books in question isn't even equal to the cost of having them graded. Spending $25 to get a $2 book graded is obviously insane.
