X-men #100 CGC 9.4 OW/W BIN $199.99 =0(

By the way, I think the CGC census for X-Men #100 CGC 9.4 is off by 1. I had

a copy shipped to my office at 130 Liberty Street (arrived the 1st week of September

2001 while I was away on vacation). I noticed the package had arrived when I got

back to work on September 11...then the world went to pieces and I got the hell

out of there (130 Liberty is the tall, black building with the American flag right

across from Ground Zero).

Anyway, it looks like the building is going to be demolished and they are no longer

allowing people in to remove select contents (it's all supposedly contaminated by

asbestos & mold), so it looks like my X-Men #100 CGC 9.4 and the 30 or so other

CGC books I had in my office are never being recovered.

Hey, I'm just happy to have escaped with my life...but anyway, the census tallies

for about 30 books is going to be overstated by 1 as a result.

We're glad you made it out too, Gene smile.gif That does suck royally. Can you even access your office if they let you go and get your stuff? I learned not to have stuff sent to my office. They irradiate all gov't mail still. My CGC 9.8 moderns would look like Golden Age comics by the time they got to me.

Those 30 books were insured I hope...

Thanks for the sentiment, Darth. To answer your question, they are no longer

letting anyone back in the building to retrieve personal items. For a while, if you

had a full physical and were trained in how to navigate your way in a full haz-mat

suit, they were letting you back in the building, but I hear they have stopped even

that. So, I have not been back inside since 9/11/01.

Someone I know who was in the building recently said that he saw the package

with the X-Men #100 still on my desk and was going to retrieve it for me on his next

foray, but then they decided it was too dangerous to let people in any more. doh!

As I said, though, I think I made out OK overall.

My books were not insured at the time (I have since insured my collection through

Collectibles Insurance Agency), but thankfully, my company had insurance for

everything in the building. They paid out the claim quickly, so from a monetary

standpoint, I made out OK. Still, I would rather have all my personal stuff back

than the cash I got...had a lot of stuff, both comics and otherwise, with high

sentimental value.

I would be remiss if I didn't note here that Bruce (bronzebruce13) helped me

replace a number of the books that I lost, in addition to providing support and

being an overall hell of a nice guy. Definitely among the classiest people in

our hobby, I'm sure.
