I think that ding on the bottom spine corner is what would keep it from the 9s, not the top edge.

A small chip out or color loss on a high grade book would be hit harder than some fuzzy overhang. Almost all early SA marvel have some overhang at the top. It's a good sign actually because you know the book wasn't trimmed.

Very solid 8.5 with an outside shot at 9.0

8.5 due primarily to spine stress. The other mentioned defects are very minor . . . focus, guys, focus . . .

VF 8.0 but depending on the color loss mid spine. Is it spine wear or just a scratch? Maybe a tad higher then.
